Hey everyone! Sorry for the lack of writing lately. Things have been really busy and we also had a death in the family, so I have not had blogging on my mind.

We have finished two weeks of our current series at LCC: All I Want For Christmas. The first week we touched on GIFTS! Not so much getting, but giving yourself as a Gift in honor of Christ. This past Sunday we learned about PEACE! Jesus came to bring Peace to all men. Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of Jesus! "To Know Peace, you must Know Christ." I received this e-mail response to the message on Peace and have received permission to share...

Hi, Brian! Just wanted to share something with you…on our prayer request card on Sunday, I put to pray for job security for Brian. We knew lay offs were coming, but not sure if he was one of those getting laid off. Yesterday we found out that they are laying off the entire company for two weeks starting Dec. 22nd. The good news is that we will get to spend an entire two weeks together…I think that will be good…ha..ha!!! Anyway, the point of all of this is because of your sermon on Sunday. As you were preaching, I knew in my heart that Brian would be laid off. Everything that you said was preparing me for how to react when the news came. We were going to have the conflict in our lives that you talked about, but we have to remember to keep Jesus in our hearts. The hardest thing for me is the worrying…I AM NOT WORRYING and that is something HUGE for me…I am a worrier! Instead I am praying. I know that God has a plan for our family, and we will be ok. He is with us and will provide us with what we need! I trust Him and have faith in Him! Your sermon was directed right at me, and prepared me for yesterday. So, thank you! Now…at first, I failed the “test” miserably! I was mad, angry, and worried. Then I started thinking about Sunday. I even pulled Sunday’s bulletin out of the trash! I shared everything with Brian, and I think it eased his mind as well! If you could keep praying for us, and especially Brian. Thanks for all you do…we are blessed to have you as our preacher!

New Series Starts Tomorrow

I am very excited about what God wants to do through the Christmas series this year. It all begins tomorrow morning at LCC. Share with us at one of our three Sunday morning worship services 8:45, 10 or 11:15. Tomorrow will also feature a special evening service - "Christmas Kick-off 08". It begins at 6 pm and will feature familiar Christmas songs, Scripture and the LCC kid's choir. If you are in town, please begin the holiday season by making worship the top priority.

Okay, so I have put this off long enough! I hope this comment is not perceived as jumping on the band wagon given all the comments that you have received regarding last Sunday. I, too, was completely moved with last Sunday's service. WOW! I still can't express what I felt and what I contniue to feel. It is truly a hard thing for me to admit that I am not thankful enough and take things for granite daily. The biggest impact for me came during communion. The format that it was given allowed me to COMPLETELY focus on the sacrifice made for me and to thank God like I have never thanked him before. Lastly, Philippians 4:4-7 is always a verse that speaks to me but after Sunday I have chosen to live it! God is in control now more than ever!!

The following was a comment from my last post. In case you don't read comments, I wanted everyone to read this. Thanks Dan Carter for your words and Praise God!!!

We sit in service every Sunday morning not knowing what the person sitting next to or in front of you are thinking or feeling. I think this past Sunday's service showed each of us that we need to share with the people around us what is going on in our life. Just talking about it to others helps releive the pressure that is constantly building up in us. I knew what my wife was going to say she was thankful for, but that was not the big picture for me. It was the fact that she was still here with me and able to share those feeling with others. God has blessed our lives in so many ways. From the prayers for my wife and new granddaughter from all the people at church to the encourgeing words you send out every Sunday. Our church is an awsome place to call home. Many people say that we have now completed the "circle of life". I feel that my life will be complete when I get to see my granddaughter accept the Lord into her life. I will than feel that I have indeed completed the "circle of life". Thank you for now only a great service this past Sunday, but for also helping everyone understand the importance of reaching out to others in our family.

God showed up!

I received another cool e-mail this afternoon about how God moved at LCC on Sunday. I just know you will get God bumps while reading this! GOD IS SO GOOD!

Thank you for all you do for us and the Church as a whole. We really do appreciate you very much. I know I don’t tell you enough. There have been many sermons that have uplifted me more than you know. Yesterday in particular, I sat in the very back row. Something I very rarely do. A young lady sat next to me that I hadn’t seen before. The Lord was telling me to introduce myself through the whole service, so I did. I didn’t realize it at the time, but later I ran into a friend of mine at the grocery. She told me her sister had been coming to our Church for a couple of weeks and really liked it. She said everyone welcomed her and she appreciated that. Evidently she had gone to a few other Church’s in Loveland and she was just stared at when she walked in the door. As it turns out, she is my friend’s sister. I have been trying to get my friend to come to Church with me for quite a while now. Her girls did come with Kyleigh this year to VBS and they loved it!

This is just one more reason to take every opportunity when it comes along. I am really praying this will work on my friend and motivate her to join us one of these Sundays very soon.

God's Work

I had the idea for Sunday's special service format several weeks ago and pitched it to the team. No one was really sure and it was very slow coming together. As a result, I went in to yesterday morning very unsure and a little afraid. How would people receive the service? Would the message get lost? Would I mess it up? Well, as I sit at my desk today (Monday) I realize that the very Scripture I used on Sunday "do not be anxious about anything..." I should actually practice. GOD SHOWED UP! HE REALLY MOVED! PEOPLE WERE TOUCHED! I truly believe from the comments people have shared with me, the e-mails I have received and the tears that came in every one of the 3 services, this Thanksgiving (and every day following) will be different for many folks! Thank you God for using ME!!!!

TOTALLY FANTABULOUS, AWESOME, TERRIFIC (I could go on and on) sermon yesterday. My grandpa died December 13th ten years ago and since the last time I saw him alive was Thanksgiving, this is a really tough time of year for me (as I'm crying typing this). As my biological father has been in prison my whole life, my grandpa was everything to me. Yesterday I was able to put my anger at him for leaving me (and possibly a little anger at God for taking him), and I can now start to have an even closer relationship with God. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being you and for being my friend.

Thanksgiving Sunday

It was a very good day at LCC. The choir not only sounded great, but they LOOKED GOOD! The red shirts really "pop". I really appreciated the amount of genuine "testimony" that was shared in all 3 services. I believe today was one of those services that will be remembered for years to come. If you missed it, you really did miss something special. Thanks to Jared for helping to create and organize each aspect. I really loved the T-giving video, it was hilarious. The special "Family Thanksgiving Feast" communion time was inspiring. Congratulations and welcome to Dennis and Millie Braun, they transferred their membership to LCC at the conclusion of second service.

I am excited to get back into the swing of the office and regular work days once again. Keep me in your prayers.

football and turkey

Today was the first LCC Turkey Tag Football game and to make it extra special, it was a FREEZER BOWL! The solid frozen tundra known as the back field at church was the football field. Thanks to Randy Preston and Keith Wrassmann for getting the field measured out, the rules set and the teams put together. We had 11 guys show up. My team consisted of Me (duh), Keith Wrassmann, Randy Preston, Brian Isaacs & Mike Gambill. The other team was Steve Nance, his neighbor Dave, Mike Woollard, Brian Hock, Churck Middlekamp & Larry Charles. I am happy to announce not only did our team win like 9 touchdowns to 5 touchdowns but I actually intercepted the final throw of the game and ran it back for a touchdown. Whooo hoooo! All that Madden playing on PS2 finally paid off. It was cold, damp and early, but it was a load of fun. I am already looking forward to NEXT YEAR! Oh, did I mention, I can't move any of my sore and swollen muscles.?! Expect I will be preaching from a chair on the stage!

This evening was the LCC Thanksgiving Dinner at Loveland High School. What a great crowd and amazing food. It is estimated that there were about 230 people tonight! Thanks to everyone who had any part in helping to make this evening a huge success. Thanks also to Skip Hardwick who went home to be with Jesus earlier this year yet donated a gift to fund this dinner. We love and miss you Skip. Enjoy the pics below...

As I write this I am less than 2 hours from the end of my vacation. It has been a wonderful time. Thanks to everyone for your support during this needed time off. Thursday was busy as we finished up indoor projects. Jen has been working on our bedroom all week and it looks GREAT. New color, less furniture and more organization. I worked on purging lots and lots of toys. I actually threw 2 large black trash bags of broken, unused or separated toys away. I also filled one large bag to be taken to Goodwill. We are now ready for Christmas! Following Caleb's homework, we headed to Milford for a delicious dinner at the Bells. Thanks Mom and Dad, it was wonderful despite Caleb's "meltdown" which was one of the worst in recent memory. I ended my Thursday evening by watching the Bengals get beat by the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the game, Caleb actually threw up from his overeating of corn during dinner and all the emotion from his melt down. He then fell asleep in my arms while watching the game. Brian Hock also came over for the 2nd half. My boy and my neighbor helped salvage an otherwise waste of TV time!

Today I did the grocery shopping. It was fun not only shopping for our normal items but also for Thanksgiving. I can't wait until Thursday. LOVE THANKSGIVING! We have so much to be thankful for.

Tomorrow morning I will get up and take part in the first annual LCC Thanksgiving Tag Football game. Just praying I leave the game in my car and not an ambulance. LOL. Following the game, it is back to work getting ready for Sunday. BY THE WAY, SUNDAY IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING SPECIAL! Don't miss it!

Day 5 & 6

Tuesday was simply Laundry day for me. I spent all day catching our laundry up. I also took kids to school and picked them up. I also made most of dinner (poppie seed chicken) YUM YUM! I did everything I could to allow jen to paint, paint, paint, paint, paint our bedroom. It looks great.

Wednesday was my outdoor day. (grunt grunt). Well, first of all, I took Lauren and we went on some errands. We went to Meijer to get stuff to make cincy chili as well as other things we needed around the home. We also stopped at Tractor Supply and Smyths to find 2-cycle engine oil. Once home, I played with Israel and Emmaus for a few minutes and then went to get gas from UDF. I mixed the gas at a 50:1 ratio to the 2-cycle engine oil and filled up my brand new, never used leaf blower. UGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I spent the rest of today blowing leaves everywhere around the yard, the neighbors yard and off the roof and out of the gutters. I WAS DA MAN! All while making cincy chili for dinner.

The chili was YUMMMMYYY! Nothing like the smell of chili cooking all day long. Oh, I forgot to say that I also made Turtle Cookies for a mid-afternoon snack. I was da man today.

Following dinner I cleaned up the kitchen got the chili in containers to freeze and then did some odds and ends. Finally ended another great vacation day with a couple games of Madden on PS2. Now I type. Only 2 more days remain. Still tons to do. Check back tomorrow.

P.S. Before I leave I must say congrats to DAN AND BRENDA CARTER! They are grandparents as of 12:30 today. Kimmy had a baby girl in Richmond Kentucky. All are doing well. Uncle Brian is very, very, very, very, very excited!

Vacation Day 3 & 4

Sunday was nice. It was cold and there were actually some very light snow flakes falling. The coolest part was that I actually got to get up with my family and help get everyone ready to head to church. Due to my schedule and job, I don't ever get to experience the Sunday morning thing at our home. We left around 9:50 am to go to Bethel, Ohio and attend the Bethel Church of Christ. My father-in-law Jon Gee is an elder there. It is the church that my wife spent a lot of her growing up years attending and the church where we had our wedding. Recently they hired Dan Achsie to be their pastor. Dan actually was the guy that Loveland had agreed to call in 2002 before hiring me. It was great to worship with the church at Bethel and to hear Dan preach. It was a very nice experience. Following worship we gathered at the Gee's for some of Grandpa's yummy Cincinnati style chili. It was a big hit. Our visit also included watching the Bengals through the first half of their game.

Once we returned home, Jen had kids choir practice and I finished watching the Bengals figure out a new way to avoid a win (they tied) and hung out with the kids. The rest of the evening was a typical Sunday evening with Jen's piano lessons and the kids Screen time and popcorn then off to bed. At 9:45 or so, Brian Hock came over to play an 18 hole skins game on PS2. WOW, we were equally matched all the way. It was a fight to the finish and... well, if you want to know, ask one of us.

Monday morning began day 4. I took the kids (Caleb and Savannah) to school and then came home. Jen then took Megan (our dog) up for her $400 + operation at the Vet. Once she returned home Jen and I worked on different projects around the house until she had to leave to take Lauren to the Doctor. She has this terrible cough and noise in her lungs. He gave her an antibiotic and an inhaler. FUN STUFF!! Lauren was able to go to school. Today was special, because not only am I on vacation, but Jennifer and Brian (across the street) both had today off, so we all 4 went to a nice lunch out. It was so good. We decided to dine at Claddagh Irish Pub. I had the most amazing French Onion soup and Monti Cristo Sandwich. WOWZERS. I highly recommend eating there. The rest of the day continued with projects around the house, picking up kids, playing with kids, bath time, screen time and bed time.

OH FORGOT SOMETHING REALLY COOL ABOUT TODAY...

It snowed almost all day. Not the kind that adds up on the ground, but the kind that is so pretty falling through the sky. I think this is going to be an amazing winter for snow lovers like me!!!! Today was a vacation gift from God!

Vacation Day 2

I stayed in bed until 9:20 am! Praise the Lord!!! Now don't think for a second that our kids stayed in bed, Caleb was up at the usual 7:15 am or so and Lauren followed, however, they were willing to watch TV downstairs and allow us to stay in bed. YES!

Another victory today...Caleb got a shower with me today. This is huge, because he doesn't take showers. He did a great job, I was so proud of him. That was the start of our FATHER SON DAY! The pictures are below. We went to Ace for a big sale. Went to the bank. Went to Cracker Barrel for lunch (we both ate a ton of chicken and dumplin's). We then went to Meijers and ended our time out at United Dairy Farmers. Once we got home we were promtly joined by his sister for several different games. It was a great day. Not a lot done on our projects, but great family time.

The evening was for Jen and I. It was a date night. Danielle came over to watch the kids and we got "dressed up" for the evening. Jen (Speedy Boat) and myself (Paxton Woods) were invited to a special game night murder mystery. What happens there, must stay there, but here is a hint in pictures...

Vacation Day 1

It was a good day. I took Caleb and Savannah to school and then came home to get to work. First item for me was to clean out Megan's "condo" under our back porch. I got everything out, threw away the nasty stuff and then tried to level out the dirt. I then cleaned everything like new. It was time for a trip to ACE! I purchased 3 bails of straw and brought it home to fill Megan's condo for the winter. While playing with Megan I realized she had something on her stomach. It was a tumor that had burst (can you say yuck). I took her to the vet around 4 and $200 later have to take her back on Monday to find out if it is cancer, who much, what kind and possible surgery. Did not expect that one.

I played PS2 this afternoon and then went to pick up the kids from school. It was Friday, so I took them through the drive through at Sonic. Came home and played with the kids for a while. We had a family dinner at McDonald's this evening (YUMMY)! It was then off to the Doziers for Danielle's 18th birthday party. HAPPY B DAY DANIELLE!

The evening ended with a couple late night games of PS2 football with Brian Hock next door. I won the first game and he won the second. A quick check of facebook, a nice conversation with Jessica Hall and now this entry.

catching up. Random Thoughts

Election Day...

I left church (which had 2 precincts). Looked at the church across the street which also had 3 precincts. Drove past a couple churches with voting. Went to a church to vote. I think the guy in front of me in line said it best when he looked around and said: "So much for the separation of church and state." Seriously, could we have elections without precincts meeting in churches? Interesting that when the state needs the church, they will pay for it, however, when it is not needed anymore, the church is the enemy!

One other thing hit me while I was standing in line for 1 1/2 hours to vote. I was thinking about how many cars were parked in church lots. In some cases, people left work, took a long lunch, skipped work, put family things aside, waited in traffic, drove around lots several times waiting for a spot to park, stood in long lines and missed appointments ALL TO GO TO CHURCH to vote. Sad that many of those churches will not have crowds like that again until 2012. Amazing that people will do all of these things to vote at church, yet they use the same reasons for missing church.

JUST RANDOM THOUGHTS!!!

By the way. Church, we didn't elect God out of our country. He is still in control and His promises are still true. Let's stand for HIM no matter what. America is counting on YOU!!!

Sunday at LCC

What an amazing day. The singing was totally sweet. Even though we lost our projection, we never missed a beat. The choir was rockin! The band sounded great! The applause for the men and women who serve or have served our country still gives me goose bumps. The sermon received a ton of positive feedback and thanks. Chuck Middlekamp joined the church after second service. Offering was great for the second week in a row. The veterans display in the foyer was breath-taking and very informative. The lunch at the American Legion hall was simply fabulous. Great turn out and lots of great food. Thanks to everyone who had any part in the weekend, your work did not go unnoticed.

SPECIAL THANKS...

Several people have been working around LCC. I am not going to name anyone, because I will miss someone. Thanks to ??? for painting the trim on the building. Thanks to ???? for helping remove shingles from the shelter roof. Thanks to ???? for roofing the shelter.

LOVE MY D-GROUP

We had another great meeting tonight. It is extra special because we only have one meeting left. What do I mean? Well, our (small group) has grown from 12 people to 26 people. WAY TO BIG!! We are now splitting into two groups. One will meet in Loveland and one in Maineville. Thanks to Larry Charles for stepping up to facilitate one of the groups. We split in December. It is exciting times, however, I will miss my loveland peeps!!!!!!! Now, which group will grow and need to split first? Could it be a competition? LOL!

ONE DAY!!!

Past Present Future

PAST:

Sunday was another of many incredible days at LCC! WOW, was God all over or what? First of all, the choir sounds GREAT! Nancy Coates and Susan Fortin hit their solo's at all 3 services, thanks for sharing your gifts with us! The band, well, WE ARE JUST SO BLESSED! We had some "glitches" with technology, sound issues and server confusion, but even in that, God was praised, and genuine worship took place. I was shocked at how full the worship center was for second service. I mean first service was good and third service was pretty full, but second was packed. I know that some of it was the fact that many people thought it was 11 and not 10, but still, it was cool. The total attendance was really great! Giving was "off the charts"! The message about the foundation of LCC really challenged and encouraged many folks! David and Julie Mock rededicated their commitment to the Lord and His church at the conclusion of the 3rd service! We were blessed to meet many new families as well as see many, many, many faces return to share with us again. Sunday school classes were full! NP-3 had 35 kids in the third service (and they got to sit in the brand new chairs)!! Finally, people were thrilled to hear that we let Holly Kern go as our Administrative Assistant and then hired her full time as our Director of Children's Ministry!!! WELCOME HOLLY! God is soooo good! I just love serving as the minister at Loveland Christian! What an awesome family of God! YOU ALL ROCK!!!!!

PRESENT:

I am totally chilled out, watching Monday Night Football, eating Halloween candy, drinking sweet tea and blogging! Does it get any better than this?

FUTURE:

Tomorrow is election day. I have remained silent about my choice and will continue to remain that way until I cast my vote tomorrow. We, as a church, and myself, as a minister have done as much as could be done to inform, teach Biblical Worldview, educate, and encourage everyone to exercise their freedom and privilege to vote first as a Christian, second as an American and finally as a "party". Remember, no matter where you sit in politics, be sure to read God's Word and pray long before you enter that booth. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

In conclusion, I want to share 10 points that were e-mailed to me today from Danielle Temple. She heard these given in a sermon at her mom's church in Northeast Ohio. Bottom line, no matter who wins tomorrow, these things will continue to be true:

1. The Bible will still have all the answers.
2. Prayer will still work.
3. The holy Spirit will still move.
4. God will still inhabit the praises of His people.
5. There will still be God-anointed preaching.
6. There will still be singing of praise to God.
7. God will still pour out blessings upon His people.
8. There will still be room at the cross.
9. Jesus will still love you.
10. Jesus will still save the lost.

One great mentor!

God knew what He was doing when He sent my wife and I to Brazil, Indiana in 2000. Greg Comp was the minister there at that time. He not only became a partner in ministry and a mentor but even more so, A FRIEND! I would not be where I am in ministry today without his words, support and love. One day is not enough to spend time with this humble man of God, but I will take what I can get. I am thankful for the conference we both attended at CCU today. I appreciate talking with Greg, sharing his life and spending time in worship together. May God richly bless your ministry in Pennsylvania my brother! I love and appreciate you with all my heart. Keep living for Him! B. OUT!

Back to School

In case you don't really believe me, I hope these pics will prove that I am back at CCU (it was Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary when I attended there in the late 80's). I am taking a class with Dr. Bill Bravard on Developing Leadership. I have enjoyed every moment of the class. We end on Saturday by attending the Energizing the Small Church Conference. Thanks LCC Elders for allowing me and providing for me to attend this class. Thanks to Holly Kern and Calvin Turner for going with me. Thanks to Dr. B for your hard work and great leadership.

Going to school, being a husband, being a dad, leading a growing church and all that comes with those things is hard work, but someone has to do it... LOL!!! Sleep well Brian, sleep well!

View Beyond The Pew

Sunday was awesome. WOW! God is sooo cool. The worship was fantastic, the spirit was active, people were excited to be there, attendance was good, God brought brand new friends to share with us, prayers were answered, burdens were released and the entire service was particularly relevant. This N That is a great series because it allows me to speak into the very heart of where we all are here and now. If you missed it, please CLICK HERE and spend a half hour or so listening to the message. Do me a favor, if you are a Christian, please listen to this message before you vote in November. Long story short: We are disciples of Christ first, We are American's second, then and only then, do we show our "political party" colors. Don't forget, we are Ambassadors of Jesus Christ not any human, even a candidate for President of the United States of America. Live for Him. Love for Him. BE HIM to this world.

The morning was complete when Nina Cadigan came forward with her family to confess her faith in Christ and to be baptized for the forgiveness of her sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. It was a moving moment! Congratulations Nina, I am so proud of you!!

What a great Sunday at LCC. What a great conclusion to a really relevant and powerful series of messages. Church, make sure that you are wearing the clothes that God has called you to dress with - Colossians 3:12!

Just some things I noticed on Sunday...

The praise choir sounded great, love it when they help lead!!
The band is really something special (even with a broken bass drum)
The songs really set up the sermon perfectly (GO GOD)!
A lot of interaction during the message, thanks to everyone willing to share your struggle with patience.
More laughter than any Sunday I can recently remember.
Nice attendance considering it was a holiday weekend.
Offering was down below budget once again.
A sort-of Revival feel after sharing about the 3 baptisms from last Wednesday night.
Lots of tears and prayer!

This Sunday already promises to be "over-the-top". Here are just a few reasons: a new series begins (watch this blog or the church website for details), trusting and praying that the baptismal waters to be stirring once again, the holiday weekend will be a thing of the past so we should be packed in like sardines, new faces will be lead here by God, familiar faces will return and most importantly, CHRIST WILL BE IN THIS PLACE! I am Back

To Dan Carter and the other folks who read my blog, I am sorry. I never intended to stay away so long, but it is what it is.

It began with the windstorm Ike that tore through our area and left my neighborhood in the dark for some 120+hours. Once we recovered from that, it was catch up time for the week we lost. Then the Richard family stomach virus took hold off and on for another week. Finally, this week we seem to be back to some sense of normality.

I will simply "forget what is behind and press on to what is ahead..."

This whole day was totally amazing. I started two new Discipleship Bible Studies for men. One meets at the Fields Ertel Cracker Barrel at 6 am and then another one at Kidd Coffee at Twenty Mile Stand at 10:30. Same study, two different groups of men. IT ROCKED! I am really excited about what God is going to do through each of these men. Leadership? Biblical Growth? Restoration? Commitment? Only God knows and I can't wait to discover it over the next weeks and months. We studied John 1:1-4. WOW! Powerful stuff. Do you know that Jesus was with God from the beginning? Did you know that Jesus was God. Did you realize that Jesus was speaking the worlds into existence in Genesis? Do you realize that Jesus is THE WORD! That Word is the light of men and true Life! We also discovered that each of us will someday be judged by God, but according to the standard of THAT WORD!

Tonight was my weekly D-group. Man, our small group (LOL) has really swelled into a middle sized group. We had a house full tonight. I think we run between 20-25 now. I know, I know, that is not right. We need to split. Actually, we all know that and "feel" that. It is cool how God is going to make that happen so easily right before our eyes. Anyway, our group experienced a EARLY ACTS CHURCH MOMENT tonight. Three individual from our group (all 3 having gone through a discipleship and baptism study) humbled themselves and was immersed into Christ tonight. We left our study at my house, picked up kids at childcare, went into the worship center, was joined by our Student Ministry (who happened to be in the building) and experienced spiritual death and new life! It was sweet. When all was said and done there must have been 50 people in the worship center. We raised the roof in celebration, it was awesome. Revival? maybe? The Church through the power of the Spirit, OH YEAH!

Congrats to Colleen Fantini, Gene Hatmaker and Larry Charles! The angels in heaven are still rejoicing!
Who is next? I know many folks have studied and just simply need to walk in faith and "take the plunge". Comment, e-mail, facebook, myspace, call me, stop by the office, ANYTHING!!!

We then gathered in the foyer for a good ole fashion afterglow complete with snacks, hugs and fellowship. It simply rocked. God must be pleased!

New Sermon Series Begins THIS SUNDAY!

I am really over the top excited about the new series beginning Sunday at LCC. We will be examining Colossians 3:12. This text is "The Great Cover Up". The reality is that once we accept Christ, we are made pure and we stand spiritually naked before him. Christ calls us to "Clothe" ourselves with certain attributes. These attributes serve to not cover up what is wrong or dirty, but to "bring to the surface" those things that will reflect the very nature of Christ. Remember, we have services at 8:45, 10 and 11:15. If you don't live in the area or attend another church, feel free to check out the sermon's at http://www.lovedtolove.org/.

This Sunday is also HOMECOMING SUNDAY! What does that mean? It is simply a call to our entire church family to make a concentrated effort to all worship on one Sunday. The fact is that any given Sunday we will have 75-100 folks missing. What would really happen if we all made it on the same week? WOW! I can't even begin to imagine how cool that would be. This Sunday we will have a "family reunion" of sorts, so please, if you consider LCC your home, do whatever you can to be here. It will not be the same without you.

This Sunday will kick off our new children's ministry programs. The NP-3 room has been renovated. Sunday school kids have been promoted. Teachers and volunteers are ready. It will be a great beginning to a great season of ministry.

The church picnic will also take place this Sunday. What a great time of fun, food and fellowship right here on the campus of LCC. Everyone is invited. Bring a dish to "pitch in". Drinks and table service will be provided. The playground will be open for the kids. There will be lots of fun activities including our annual CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT! This year the women's ministry will also have a silent auction going on throughout the picnic. They are still in need of some items, so contact Landa Conover if you can help out. The fun begins at 5:30 and will continue until ? Please plan to join us on this special evening.

Remember church, we exist to win, build and send servants of Jesus Christ! See you on Sunday!

View Beyond The Pew

Sunday was a really sweet day at LCC. Attendance was good (you can tell that Summer is over) and the singing was "over the top". I loved the piano only time of singing. Don't get me wrong, I love our band and God works in amazing ways through them, but it is always nice to mix things up a little. The songs were dead on. The sermon was well received and I really feel like we are starting to "get it". The "ABC's" of being a steward of God's stuff is starting to sink in. I wanted to end with an "aha" e-mail I got from Tom McGee, a long time attender of LCC. Thanks for sharing Tom, I think your e-mail represents a lot of us following this series...

As you finished your series on money I had a mini Aha! moment. I am finally able to articulate a spiritual lesson that I have been slow in learning.

Most sermons I have heard concerning money focused on giving. The message was “Put God first in everything, including money, and He will provide.” I took this message to heart but have applied it incorrectly.

I believed I was trusting God with my finances but my thinking was mostly along these lines: Put giving as the number one priority in your budget and God will make the rest work out. In other words, turn your financial mess over to God and He will provide enough cash to pay your bills and keep you out of trouble. It doesn’t work that way, does it? Why did I think it would?

I see now that trusting God with your finances means to trust His plan. He promises financial peace to those who handle money according His principles - to those who are content with what He provides.

Dave Ramsey often mentions giving in his books. Instead of saying that giving is an obligation, he assumes that most of us naturally want to give and shows us that we can have plenty by following God’s principles for financial management.

Brian, your ministry is bearing fruit largely because of your dedication to the precepts of discipleship. You don’t act as God’s enforcer, beating us up for not following the rules. You see yourself as a fellow disciple who has been called to be a spokesman. You show us what God wants from us, pointing out the rewards of loving obedience and the consequences of disobedience.

Straight talk, straight from the Bible. That is why the pews were full for five weeks of sermons on money, in the summer.

"Real Mother"

I had one of those moments this evening. Lauren was asleep, Caleb and Jen were gone running errands and I was surfing the Internet when *Ding Dong* the doorbell rang. That is not uncommon here at the Richard home, so when I got to the door I was not surprised to see Savannah and Cade our neighbor kids. I opened the door and Savannah said, "we are so bored". That means, please let us come in and play. I stepped out and started talking to her about her day when she said, "wait right here, I have something I made for you." Ahhhh, how sweet. She brought me a cute little basket that she made in her leadership class at the YMCA. I was touched. It was a gift I will treasure. Nothing weird about this, well, until she put her arms around me and said "I think you have become my Real Mother." WHAT? I must have looked like I just saw a ghost. I turned to her and demanded that she tell me what she said again. I mean, I am not exactly the best "mother" material, not to mention she has an awesome "real mother" of her own. It was then I heard what she really said..."I think you have become my Role Model". He he he he he! We both laughed for a while. WOW! The whole thing was hilarious, although, it was most likely one of those "you had to be there" moments.

The other side of the coin...wow, what a privilege and yet what a responsibility. I pray that I can always be a positive role model not only for my sweet neighbor girl Miss Savannah, but also for every young (and young at heart) person in my community, church and life.

God give me the heart of compassion toward everyone and thank you for the opportunity to speak a positive message into the lives around me. Thank you for the humble experience of this evening and the special gift Savannah made for me and the special friendship the Richard family has been given with our new neighbors. I can't wait to see what you have in store for me next. amen

My baby girl is now a school girl? :o(::::::::

Lauren Jessica Richard (my baby girl) started preschool at JF Burns Elementary on Tuesday, September 2nd. She did so well. She told mommy that it was time for her to "walk" and as soon as her teacher came out, she went in and never looked back. I am so proud of her. Her week is now over and her teacher gave us a thumbs up and said that she had a wonderful first week. Way to go Lauren!

my boy a thief?

It happened today. Right in front of my eyes. Caleb and I were in Kroger's, getting a few items for dinner as well as lunches the rest of the week. Lauren was asleep in the car and Jen was with her. We got the salami and Munster cheese, then went for the frozen pizza. We were heading to the fruit side of the store to get fresh fruit for lunches when I decided to take a sudden turn and go to the salad bar. After all, what is a good frozen pizza without a fresh tossed salad from the bar. It was then I heard my cute little 1st grader say, here is some fruit. I knew he was talking about the cut fruit on the salad bar, so I finished putting in my salad fixings in the container and looked up at him...

THEN IT HAPPENED....

NO..................... He took a huge bite out of the cut watermelon off the salad bar. Crunch, crunch, crunch and swallow. It was gone, into his stomach. Caleb, my bubby, the preacher's son, had just stolen watermelon. I know, I know, don't find specks when you had planks. I get it. Yes, his dad picked a few grapes off from stores many years ago, but this was different. I was dad. I am a preacher. People know me. WHAT DO I DO?

I knew this HAD to be a teaching moment. I asked him why he would take that when it didn't belong to him, to which he responded, "because I was hungry." Okay, Caleb, but it is not yours, it doesn't belong to you, you have not paid for it, that is stealing. It was then that Caleb looked at my salad freshly put together in my hand and said, "then that salad don't belong to you." Clever little cus, isn't he. I went on to explain that I would be buying it and would not eat it until after I did. But that his watermelon (which he had finished by now) was in his stomach and there was no way to see it to pay for it.

As we walked towards the checkout, I was not sure what to do. Is talking enough? What are the consequences? Where is the lesson? Finally, it hit me. Caleb, I said, you need to apologize to someone that works here and then I will have to offer to pay, if they don't call the police on us (okay, a little harsh I know, but I was on a role).

First person I saw at a register I actually knew. It was Matt. He has come to church a few times with one of our teens. I could have Caleb apologize to him. Well, Matt's line was really long. Finally, I knew we were going to have to do self check out if we wanted to get out of there. The self checkout guy was not the one. He was half asleep and I am not even sure he knew where he was at. We payed up and started to walk toward the door. Who could I get? What should I do? Caleb then speaks up, as only an innocent child would do, and says, "Dad, who do I need to say sorry too?" It was in that moment that I saw the man with the black name badge. No, not the Morman elders that come to our doors, but a Kroger Manager.

We walked up and I explained to the man that my son had taken a piece of watermelon off the salad bar and eaten it. I had told him that was not right and that we could get in trouble. I then explained how I felt that Caleb needed to apologize to him and that then I would pay the man whatever he said I needed too. It was great, this trained manager was speechless. It was priceless. Then Caleb spoke up and said, "I'm sorry." Then I asked how much we owed. The man stuttered around and then finally said, you don't owe anything. It was at that moment, the man's parenting skills kicked in and he said something similar to this..."This time you don't owe anything and the apology is enough, however, if you do this again, the next time it will not be good." I LOVED IT! We both thanked the nice man and moved out the door.

On the way to the car I quickly replayed all the events for Caleb and talked about what had just happened and made sure he would never do that again. Then we got to the car and opened the door. I said nothing to Jen, I just waited and wondered how long Caleb could resist. It was like 3 seconds until he told mom the whole story. A few miles down the road, Caleb asked me if he had to be in time out. I am so glad he asked, because in that moment I was able to give my own grace to my son. I told him that he had apologized, it had been accepted and so it was forgotten. It was over and there was not need for time out.

Why share this? Well, as horrifying as seeing my son steal was to me, it was a priceless teaching moment. As parents we must always manage our responses and look for ways to correct and teach in all situations. I pray he never forgets what happened and how he felt. I pray he saw GRACE and FORGIVENESS in the event. The real reason I needed to share, I think I finally passed as a parent. For all the things I have not handled well, I hit a grand slam on this one!

What a BIG BOY!

Caleb is now an official First Grader at JF Burns Elementary. Can you believe it? His first day was Thursday and he did GREAT! He handled the lunch room like a pro. Friday started off really rough at home but once at school he mastered the first grade (day 2) like a pro. We are very excited for him and proud of him. We took him to Abuelos for a celebration dinner, it was a blast. I cannot believe that my baby is in first grade. He has a great teacher! God is good to us. JF Burns has been a blessing and answer to our prayers. Lauren will start preschool on September 2nd, but as you can tell by the first day pictures, she is ready to go NOW.

It is Wednesday and I continue to think about all that God did for us this Sunday. If you missed it, you missed a "once in a lifetime" experience. I know that I say that more than I should, but trust me, this won't happen again...

You see it, I was handcuffed by a chief of police at all three services as I began to preach. Why? What did I do? What was the point? Take 20 minutes CLICK HERE and listen for yourself.

Some other observations...

Laurie Miller played guitar and added her voice into the mix in the praise band for the first time, WOW, what an awesome job! Great new blessing!
Attendance was a good even distribution, but continues to be much lower than years past. Is it a summer slump? Is it laziness? Is it sickness? If you know, let me know.
Operation Christmas Child drop-offs were overflowing with school supplies. Thanks to everyone who is taking part in this incredible mission. Thanks to Tom and Katie McGee for your presence at the drop-off table.
I actually saw a line of people waiting to sign up for the women's Bible study this fall. How cool is that?
New families and friends continue to be led to LCC each and every Sunday. The cool thing Sunday was 85% of the people who were brand new last Sunday came back this week! PTL!
We announced that LCC has been chosen from all the churches in America by Children's Ministry Magazine to receive a complete Resource room CLEAN SWEEP! They will be here working sometime between September 5-9!! Look for some media coverage.

This kind of stuff is what keep me going. A member of our church recently ran into a mutual friend who drives by our church building on a regular basis and he asked a question about our church logo "loved to love". Pick up the e-mail here...

Brian, he asked me about something that he has been wondering about since it's existance....... What in the world does loved to love mean ??? He says that everytime he passes the church and looks at the sign he starts wondering what it is supposed to mean. I thought and said "here is my easy explaination". We are loved by God so we too are supposed to show our love to others. So, loved by God, love others. He said ok that makes since. He seemed pleased with my answer. How did I do ???

YOU DID GREAT! Way to go! I love it when folks "get it". Come on Church, let's not only "get it" but let's "live it"!!

twice adopted

Today I received the following e-mail from a lady in my church who recently lost her father and it really blessed my socks off. I received permission to share it with you, so enjoy...

I didn’t expect or think about how much I would miss dad while I am at church. Wow I am only having a hard time there! I think one of the reasons is I associate the church with safety and love. So when I am there I can’t hold back, I have to feel what I feel. I have always related to you when you have said you were twice adopted. I have to tell you a story. Of course you know I came by myself until I got married to Rick. I was 26. The day my dad came to church I was so overwhelmed, I had to get up and leave to control myself. All those years of not understanding a lot of what I was being taught. Of feeling alone, and not sure of myself, because I didn’t have an adult here to tell me, it was amazing. It is awful as a child to learn about Christ and what we all must need to do to be saved and KNOWING that my dad was really lost. It is a pain that is hard to carry. Eventually when I learned it was not in MY hands, but Gods and I gave it to him- it was a short amount of time really, between that and my dad coming back. But before that happened, I remember, sitting in the third pew left side on a Sunday night. I was very crushed because my parent’s marriage was falling apart and I had just decided, and I remember the moment, that I could no longer have contact with my dad until he was sober. I didn’t call or ask him to visit or visit him. It was because I knew he had to do it for himself. I wanted him to get sober so bad- but at my age of 34 and him not sober I knew he couldn’t do it for me, I was sittingin the pew and thinking “I don’t have a dad anymore. Will I ever get him back again? Oh my gosh I don’t have a dad”. And then it was unbelievable- I heard a voice in my head say “I will be your father, I will take his place”. I actually sat up really straight and looked around to see if someone was talking to me!!! I then sat there and realized, after hearing it for years and years without really GETTING it- that God is the ULTIMATE father. He doesn’t disappoint. He is always the same. He doesn’t hurt me, embarrass me or do anything except what is best for me. It was at that point that I truly understood God- the Father. And from that day on, I really have had a closer relationship with him, and it’s such a deeper and loving relationship. When hard times come, it’s not SO hard because my Daddy is looking out for me. Abba, Father. I would never be able to have the father that I needed. My dad just wasn’t capable of it. I understood that, and it helps me get through some really tough times when he wasn’t such a nice person to be around. It was OK because I still had my daddy. And I know that I will always have him- even whithmy earthly father now gone, it’s not such a hole in my heart because God has help fill it up with what was missing. Praise him.Thats why I think I am twice adopted too.

We have a tradition at Woodland lakes camp during mealtimes called "the hula". It came back while on our recent mission trip. I was called upon to do the hula, so I decided to give it 100%. Stand on a chair, jump to another chair, continue to hula and then finally jump to the front row....WHAM, through the chair, nail through my knee, blood and a crushed pride. Enjoy...

love your neighbor as yourself

We love our home here in Maineville, however, our plans had been to pack up and move to a place where we actually had neighbors that we could share life with and our kids could hang out with. Well, things have changed and changed fast. First of all, Brian and Roxanne and their son Avery moved in. They are great and we have enjoyed the last year together. Talk about people who can landscape and grow tomatoes, WOW! They have been such a positive addition to our street and to our lives.

Then in June Brian and Jennifer (yes, you read right) along with their kids Savannah and Cade moved in across the street. There was an instant friendship formed. We have been so blessed to share life day in and day out. Jen R has someone to talk with, shop with, go walking with. I have someone to help out around the yard, someone to talk with and someone to "kick butt" with in cornhole (we make a really great team). Caleb is a different boy because of the time he has spent with the kids. He actually rides his big wheel now and I imagine will ride a bike soon. Lauren loves to be outside and even cries sometimes when Savannah doesn't get in the car and go with us. She is also always talking about Cade and Savannah. We were able to invite Savannah to VBS and she even got slimmed with me. Now they have been attending LCC for many weeks and we could not be happier.

God truly answered our prayers. We are so blessed. Thank you Lord for sending us such great friends. We could not even imagine living anywhere else.

On Tuesday of this week Jen, Caleb and I got the honor of taking Savannah to Kings Island. It was her first time to ever walk in the park. We had an amazing day. We all had fun. Savannah has become an extension of our family and it was a day full of memories for all of us. By the way, she is now known as the RACER QUEEN! Enjoy a few pics from the day...

From the lot attendants to the greeters at the doors, we as first time visitors were not simply welcomed, but we were made to feel welcome. WOW it was so good to be "back in the saddle" again on Sunday. Thanks to Dan Ponchot and LJ Dozier for filling in while I was gone. I loved both messages. If you missed them or would like to hear any messages please CLICK HERE. Thanks to everyone who welcomed us home and asked us about our vacation. I Just love my church family.

It seems that God had some stuff to say to many of us on Sunday. I received several e-mails and have participated in many conversations about how powerful the message on attitude was Sunday. In this view beyond the pew, I would like to take the space to present a quick recap of the message.

Philippians 2:5 tells us to "have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus". It is not only true in this context of humility and self-sacrifice but in anything that we do in life. We are "Christians" and that calls us to be "Christ-like". As a result, when it comes to anything in our life, we should mirror the attitude of Christ, even MONEY and POSSESSIONS! The main attitudes that seem to go along with any text that Christ speaks on money/possessions are 1)the attitude of a servant. We need to remember that we are slaves of righteousness and slaves of God (Romans 6:18&22) so we belong 100% to him. He is a master that loves us and has sacrificed for us, but we are still in that slave/master relationship. We have been "bought with a price" and we are no longer our own. 2) the attitude of a steward. Our master has given us a unique opportunity to "manage" a portion of what belongs to him. Because He owns us, He also owns all that comes with us. We are expected to "manage" everything (money, clothes, homes, body, family, stuff and even His Truth) well. In fact we are told in I Corinthians 4:1&2 and Romans 14:12 that we must prove faithful and that each of us will one day give an account as His managers or stewards. 3) the attitude of sacrifice. God gave the ultimate sacrifice in His Son for you and I. As managers of our master's stuff, we are called to the same priorities. God is a God of sacrifice and we are called to do likewise.

Sunday I prayed that each of us would adjust our attitudes to conform to Christ. I continue to pray that we are all taking inventory of each attitude and adjusting toward Him. This is essential for coming together next week and talking about DEBT! By the way, that sermon is done and God really is going to shake some foundations this week. Don't miss it!

A few other thoughts about last Sunday. First of all, it was refreshing to see a solid attendance even though several of our families were gone on trips, reunions and some even sick. God is really blessing us. Giving was above our need once again. We were blessed to hear about the world-wide evangelism that is going forth from Caracas, Venezuela from our own missionary Jim Dye. Some familiar faces returned after being away for some time. We were blessed to meet several new families for the first time. Lots of smiles, lots of hugs and lots of JESUS.

On a personal note, our D-group picnic in the shelter was incredible. Several new families attended and man, what a beautiful day. August 10th in Cincinnati and it was sunny, with a cool breeze and temps in the 70's! WOW!

Loveland Christian Church family and friends, I AM BACK! I am really excited about what God wants to say tomorrow to each of us. Just think ATTITUDE! Philippians 2:5! We start a new series and the final one of our Summer Smarts season entitled: "$$The ABC's$$" I cannot believe how excited I am to share this message with my family at Loveland. I was really getting fired up in my office today as I prepared for God to do His thing through me. You will NOT want to miss Sunday at LCC. In case you forget or don't know, service times are 8:45, 10 & 11:15. Bring your Bibles, get a seat early and "fasten your seat belts". We are going to go for it tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who reads my blog on a regular basis. I am going to sign off for a few weeks. I leave on a mission trip this Saturday morning and will be doing a little blogging on our mission trip blog. Make sure to read it daily. You can find it HERE.

Following the mission trip, the Richard family will be getting away on a much needed vacation to Dale Hollow lake and then Cumberland Falls.

I am also in need of some time to evaluate life, friendships, ministry, family, calling and future. I critically need to spend some time with God and His Word instead of making sure I am blogging. Thanks for understanding and please keep me in prayer.

Okay so it is Wednesday night and I am writing about Sunday. Oh well, that is just my life. I have thought a lot about it and well Sunday was just okay. I mean, attendance was down some, offering was off budget, we had a couple new faces and the sermon was okay for a guy with his back out and pink eye. It was a "typical" Sunday OR WAS IT? Is there such a thing as just "okay" and "typical" when you are dealing with GOD and HIS CHURCH? No way!

It is not just about stats and tracking and the preacher. It is so much more. I mean, kids and adults were learning about Jesus. I received an e-mail from a member of LCC who said that what she heard Sunday in the sermon answered questions and gave healing to her life in ways that she had not ever experienced. People were hugging and sharing smiles everywhere in the building. The singing was spirit-filled and passionate. People came forward to pray. A lady came to our second service that I have not seen in like 20 years. I went to the Christian Academy with her son and they attended my home church in Goshen, Ohio. In fact, it was an AWESOME DAY in the house of the Lord. I love my church family at LCC!

Now for the more... I still have a really pink or I guess you could say RED eye. What is it? Will it ever go away? I don't know. Then there is my back. It is still sore, but getting better thanks to Dr. Hakes and American Family Chiropractic in Mason. If you need a Chiropractor, please check them out, they are awesome. Then, tuesday morning came. It was about 3:15 when I heard the hail stones hitting the roof. I opened the window to hear what sounded like a bus in our back yard. I went to the front door and on watched one of the worst storms we have had in years. It wasn't until the next morning that I saw what it really had done. Take a look at this

It fell right over Lauren's room while she slept. Thank God it only fell a short distance and it had a lot of branches that kept it from really smashing into the roof. In fact, we had NO damage. Thanks to Dan Ponchot for taking time to help me get it sawed up and cleaned up.

Now it is all about getting ready for our mission trip to work in Pearlington, Mississippi with IDES. Remember to check out THIS BLOG all next week.

MIRACLES DO HAPPEN

What an amazing closing program to our VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL! It was an amazing week and the exclamation point was placed on Thursday night. First of all, we had a full house as we met in the Worship Center before heading out to the back field for fun and games and food. Our kids and parents were challenged on Wednesday night toward an unheard of offering goal of $3600 to build a home for a needy family in Haiti. We had already "blown away" our goal of $1000 and were sitting at $1500+. We met our missionaries, prayed and began to sing our hearts out with "Fixin My Eyes on Him" and "Everlasting Love". Holly then headed toward the stage and handed me a piece of paper. WOW! It was a great closing night offering of $664!! That put us over $2000 and became the highest VBS week offering in the history of LCC. Once again I brought up the missionaries to praise the Lord with them and give them the opportunity to say thanks. However, even I was not prepared for what would happen next. One of the missionaries came over and whispered in my ear..."someone has promised the rest". WHAT? Did I hear Rosa correctly? Yes, I did! An anonymous donor promised over $1400 to bust through the $3600 mark! WOW! The place went NUTS! I began to cry, lots of people got slimmed and most importantly, a needy family in Haiti will have cement floors and walls and 2 rooms! GOD IS GOOD...ALL THE TIME & ALL THE TIME...GOD IS GOOD!!!

The really cool part was that our VBS was one night shorter this year and we are in one of the toughest economies in years. Remember, God can do more than we can ever hope, dream or imagine!

I can't wait to see what he wants to do at church tomorrow!

A HUGE BLESSING

I am still in shock at our VBS offering tonight. It was "bill" or "paper money" night and boy did the kids respond! When it was all said and done, we had over $850 just tonight. That is amazing, that is GOD! In 4 nights we are sitting at $1600+ and our goal was only $1200. All the offering is going toward building a house for a family in Haiti. An entire house will cost around $3600 to build. Could we do it? Could God make it happen? Could we see another miraculous offering at the closing program tomorrow to put us WAY OVER THE TOP! After tonight, I believe anything is possible. Isn't it great to know that God move despite our economy!?!?! PRAISE THE LORD or as we say at VBS "Benny Swallowed the nail"

VBS CURSE?!?!

Last year my week of VBS ended a couple days early when I was struck with Shingles on Tuesday night. I ended up being sick and off my feet for over a week. It was a horrible memory in a otherwise great VBS week. I am happy to say that this year I do NOT have shingles, however, once again today I ended up at my family doctor's office...

Melony Erman asked me on Monday evening if I had done something to my eye. I told her I was just exhausted. Then I woke up this morning but only ONE EYE would open. The other one was "glued" shut. YUCK! I called my doctor and sure enough, I HAVE PINK EYE! The thought is that I most likely got it from my "pirate eye patch". UGhhhhhhh! Oh, I forgot to tell you that I also threw my back out on Monday morning and it is still out tonight. That allowed me an opportunity to see my chiropractor today and also will be there tomorrow.

Back to my title...Is VBS my curse? What a couple years? Ugggh. This may be my last one. Of course, I have said that many times.

While I have you here, let me just say that VBS has been amazing. Lots of kids (175 on Monday and 166 tonight). Great offering (we are above $700 as of tonight). There were 6 kids associated with our little street that went tonight, how cool is that? It has been amazing. Great theme, great workers, great snacks, great music, great missionaries and GREAT fun!!

Okay, so SUNDAY SIMPLY ROCKED! WOW! The stage was awesome (take a look at this). Thanks to Cathy Collett and Rosa Miller and anyone else who had anything to do with it! It is one of the best VBS backdrops I have ever seen!!! We had an awesome attendance for the middle of the summer and people were genuinely excited to be here. Don't be fooled, not everyone was happy. We are a church with real people so... there were folks who just found out they have a cancer battle to fight, folks who just lost a teenage daughter/sister/friend to Leukemia, folks who were waiting results of tests, folks who were struggling financially, folks who were sick and tired, folks who are battling depression, folks who really need a job... BUT, the Spirit and Power of God was really moving and it was evident in the faces of everyone walking through LCC! Thank you Jesus! People were hugging, praying and loving on one another. The message was well received and I have already heard about action as a result of the challenge given. GO GOD! We had another wonderful and faith-filled offering received. Chris and Emily Dorer came forward at the conclusion of 3rd service and joined the family here at LCC! WELCOME GUYS! Our NP-3 children's ministry had 30+ kids in the 11:15 hour alone. We had more new faces including my awesome neighbors Jennifer, Savannah and Cade! Our "Eden Exchange" garden table was full of vegetables from the Dotson garden and so many folks helped themselves (must be like it was in Acts 2). Jennifer and I were blessed to have Chris and Emily join us for lunch. What a great couple. God is going to use them in power here at LCC! I can't wait to see what he has in store for them and for US!

Sunday evening brought the first night of VBS! WOW! It was incredible. We broke first night records with 154 kids and 75 adults! I was soooo impressed by how well it was organized, how easily people pitched in and did whatever was needed and the best part was seeing so many new LCC folks getting involved. Thank you Holly and your entire crew for what promises to be a really BIG VBS! Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

LCC REDS

It is hard to live in Cincinnati and hear the same thing year after year... it begins with something like "the Bengals have a real chance this year" or "the reds really have a great team and may challenge everyone this year". Then fast forward to about mid season... "the Bengals have no hope and need to start thinking about next year." or "the Red's are finished, too far behind, and need to start building for the future. UGGHHHH! Enough is enough. Now, we add the LCC Men's Softball Team into that same scenario. Just 4 weeks ago we were above .500 and looking like we had a real chance this year. Now, after 3 losses just this week, we are in the basement and I AM SIMPLY TIRED! We have not just been loosing, we have been beat. UGGGHH! Does it really matter in life? NO! Does it really make a difference in the whole scheme of things, NO WAY!!!! So why post about it? I just needed to vent! I guess all I can say is Praise God for Vacation Bible School next week and NO SOFTBALL!!!

GREAT WEEKEND

What a great outreach down in Loveland on Friday night. Thanks to Darren & Geneva Myers and their team for organizing the event. Thanks to Holly Kern and her team for the awesome work on the float. Thanks to anyone else who helped in anyway whether you were able to be at the event or not. Way to go, LCC! YOU ROCK! We are still waiting to see if we won a prize for the float. About 30 of us walked the parade route handing out candy, eye patches and beads. It was a ton of fun. My kids had the best ride, a wagon pulled by daddy and then mommy. Following the parade, we gathered at Nisbet park to hand out free water, paint faces, lead some crafts and share the love of Christ. It was awesome to see so many people with LCC bottles of water. We ran out of water about 9:30 pm. The fireworks show was spectacular this year and almost worth the mile walk with Lauren asleep on my shoulder back to our car. Enjoy a few pics of the evening...

Saturday, we spent the afternoon at the Ponchots for the one day delay 4th of July party. It was a beautiful day and the food was incredible. Thanks Dan and Julie for your friendship and partnership in ministry. THE POOL LOOKED GREAT!

Sunday was one of those days. I sat down to listen to Jared sing our opening song "God bless America" when I looked down to see my pants split completely open. I knew I had to get up and welcome everyone and would have to do it with torn pants. See what I mean, "Holey Pants"...

Following the opening and prayer I went back to the office looking for ANYTHING to close my pants. Ugggghhhh, it was like a bad Saturday night dream. I could not find anything, about that time Dan Ponchot came in the door and handed me a pair of his pants that he had just happened to throw on the floor when he changed earlier that week. PRAISE THE LORD! They even matched my outfit. What a way to start the day. The rest of the morning was awesome. Great attendance, great offering, great response to the message and lots of new faces. God is so good to us. I can't wait to start our Dr. Seuss Theology Series this Sunday. Don't miss "Horton Hears A Who". See you then.

Crazy Week

Hey everyone! It is almost midnight on Wednesday and I am BEAT! We have been at the Duke Energy Center in downtown Cincinnati all day Tuesday and today for the North American Christian Convention. Jennifer and I bought booth space for the Michala Riggle and her BEADING TO BEAT AUTISM ministry. We also volunteered to help out in a Welcome Center today. It has been exhausting, but also wonderful. We sold almost $400 worth of bracelets on opening night and then followed that up with nearly $900 today, PRAISE THE LORD! I truly believe that we may hit $1000 tomorrow. God is blessing her ministry and we are so blessed to be a part of it.

The NACC has been a real treat. I have networked and reunited with so many brothers and sisters in Christ. We have not had opportunity to take in a workshop, but were blessed in the worship session on Tuesday evening. If you have never attended the NACC, I would strongly encourage you to plan to be in Louisville next summer and join us there.

Before I sign off, I want to say a big many thank yous. First of all, to the Pachta family for taking our kids on Tuesday and treating them to a special day. Secondly, to my mom and dad for keeping the kids overnight on Tuesday. Thirdly, to Mike and Heidi Constable for being there for our kids this evening. Here are many more... I want to say thanks ahead of time to Kayla Rose for watching our kids on Thursday. Thanks also to everyone associated with LCC who have helped out in anyway at the NACC, it is so encouraging to see so many of our church family at the convention. I want to thank Lisa Poole for taking a week away from work and being here to assist with the Beading to beat autism booth. Thanks to Emlyn and Michala for making a couple trips from Louisville to Cincy and back. Thanks to my wonderful wife for helping out, supporting and being such a wonderful helpmate. Thanks to Dan Ponchot, Didi Back and the awesome youth at LCC for being such an great witness at the convention. Thanks to Alicia and Kurt for helping us out in our booth. Finally, thanks to my awesome staff and leadership at LCC who are filling in and giving me opportunity to be out of the office all week long.

I appreciate the friendship that I have with Jesse Kankowski. He is someone who always encourages me and also someone who I know will pray for whatever I ask. This has been a tough time for him especially in his job. I wanted to pass along this testimony I received from him while I was at camp (I was given permission to share)

Hey Brian: I wanted to give you a testimony of Tamara and I over the last couple of months.
It was in September 2007 when we found out about that the company I am working for would be closing within one year. I started putting in applications and resumes immediately and have been doing so ever since. In this time, I have had only two interviews. It has led to a lot of stress and also a lot of changes this year - two kids in counseling and a new baby - but I think we have taken it all in stride. We were there for each other, and most importantly, so was God. We also relied heavily on prayer with our AMAZING small group who has been so supportive, Landa and Mel, and so many other wonderful church family to talk and pray with. We kept remembering Howard Wakefield saying "If you are going to pray, why worry? If you are going to worry, why pray?" I have said that so many times, I cant even tell you. We have put in Gods hands and he has came through!!
As I write this on Monday morning, there is a 95% chance that tomorrow will be the last day that the company will be open. So, the good part, I went on an interview last week. I was told that I would have to go through two more interviews. Not the case, as of this morning I officially accepted an offer they gave me to join Taylor Bean and Whitaker (a mortgage company) doing EXACTLY what I do now. Tamara and I could not be happier. They pay is lower (but pays all the bills), I get vacation time again, better insurance, better hours, more opportunity for growth and it is only about three more miles from where I am (very important with gas prices :)). So that updates you. It has been a very, very, very, very long months. There are times that I have driven Tam up a wall, but she has been by my side every step of the way. So, just another reason God is good all the time... and all the time God is GREAT!!!!!!!

I got the opportunity to have breakfast with Jesse this week and enjoyed our time together. He shared more of his testimony and life and I got to share life and prayer concerns. It is so good to get together with other brothers in Christ, especially at IHOP! Anyway, I also received the following e-mail today from Jesse in response to my "disappointment" in the memorization of Proverbs 1:7 as a church:

Okay, time to catch up...

Father's day Sunday was awesome at LCC! It is always a special day because of our annual "Dirty Golf Ball Awards". This tradition began following the passing of my mentor Marty Herbert in 2005. I always wear a "Marty tie" and share a short testimony about Marty's influence in my life. This year was a little more special because Marty's son, David flew in from Phoenix to assist me during all three services. The message was well received, attendance was great, new faces seemed to be everywhere and the band was on! I was also blessed to have my two Brazil, Indiana buddies DELLMO & JIMBO in the second service!

Following a nice lunch at TOOTS it was off to Woodland Lakes Christian camp for MIDDLER 1 camp. I am the dean. I am assisted by Holly Kern and Tony Miller as co-deans. I also have an incredible staff of some 30+ people. We were greeted by 74 third - fifth graders on Sunday evening. It was a great week in so many respects.

Only one camper had to go home.
I saw lots of kids really grow spiritually.
I made a lot of lifelong friends.
Our staff grew in spirit.
The kids beaded 68 bracelets for Beading to Beat Autism.
Ron Vance shared a great program about his special ministry.
Gene Hatmaker shared a wonderful evening of Illusions.
Each of the family groups shared a song they "worked up".
We had a fun skit/cheer competition.
The kids had a blast swimming, doing archery, climbing the outdoor climbing wall, using the inflatables, experiencing the Teeter Tauter and Trampoline in the lake.
We had amazing worship and lots of fun with Dellmo and Jimbo.
We raised over $1200 for Holy is the Lord Ministries.

Finally, one camper and one counselor gave their hearts to Jesus and were baptized at camp. Congrats to Aaron Young (camper) and Vicki Charles (Counselor).

I love all the kids and staff that God blessed me with this year. I am already looking forward to "Da Jungle" next year! Would you like to help next year? Let me know ASAP if you would like to return or be a first time counselor!

This Sunday was another God day at LCC! While attendance was down just a little due to family vacations, the experience was second to none. Once again there were several new faces and many returning new friends at each of the services. It was great to begin worship with Jared playing a piano solo once again. The sermon really fit well and there was a lot of laughter in the building. I know that everyone could hear the disappointment in my voice when so few had memorized Proverbs 1:7, but please know that it is not personal or meant to be guilt. The Word of God is just so precious and the verse is only 16 words, so I expected to hear a greater applause. Overall I am very excited about the numbers of people reading through Proverbs and the positive comments being made and experienced by LCC! Keep up the good work. By the way, on Monday evening I got a call on my voice mail at church and it was a whole family (adults and kids) quoting the memory verse together. THANKS! It made my day!!

Our softball game was cancelled on Monday night, so we took an impromptu family day to Skyline and Kings Island! Guess what? Caleb and Lauren both rode "Fairly Odd Coaster". I was so proud of them. We actually road it as a family and we have a picture to prove it. Also, the guy running the ride was Ross Miller, a former member of LCC. It was good to see him.

Finally, look at these pics! My wife has turned into a really cool Martha Stewart and all with stuff we have grown. She made this pie from scratch with cherries right off our tree. Tonight she made a delicious dish using the very first Zucchini grown from our garden (in Caleb's hand). It has only just begun... I love growing and eating!

Oh, thanks for your prayers with Caleb. We got a diagnosis and some direction today and will share that in a blog really soon.

Daddy Son Day!

Today I took a few hours and worked outside the office. Dan Ponchot and I talked "work" in the car, over lunch and yes around the pond. It was a great opportunity to spend some quality time with my son. Today was a historic day, it was my son's first real fishing experience and it was a victory (for us, not for the fish)! Caleb actually caught a fish before I did. In total, he caught 3 fish. He did so well. He was so patient. I was so proud of him. His little spiderman pole was perfect. A special thanks to George Cornwell for allowing us to fish in his pond. He and Margaret actually live on the same street (Bray Rd.) that I grew up on in Goshen, Ohio. I actually used to ride my bike to the creek in front of their home. Now I am their pastor! It is such a small world. Anyway, make sure to check out the pics below. Dan and I also caught several fish, including one bass a piece (mine was bigger) :o) We finished the morning with a lunch at, you guessed it, SKYLINE!

In case you are wondering, yes, I did go into the office and yes I did get a lot of "work" finished today. However, the most meaningful and most important thing I did today had to do with lawn chairs, docks, hooks, worms, bobbers, water and CALEB! I love you son! Thanks for a great day!

It was a great Sunday at LCC! Here are a few highlights...

A great crowd and evenly spread out through all three services. I think everyone forgot it was summer (LOL)!
A great offering! WOW! I actually had someone ask if there was a misprint on the offering sheet in the office. I am happy to say there wasn't. Over $10,000! And it wasn't even the first Sunday of the month! A heartfelt thanks from this preacher for your "faith in action" even during a very tough economic time. I am amazed and humbled once again! To God be the glory!
A great sermon! Now, before you think I am blowing my own horn, it was NOTHING about me! God took this one and ran with it! "Train a child" as both parents and the church. What a win/win! Thank you God for showing up and taking charge!
A great time of worship through song! Dan did a great job leading our band and leading us to the Throne of God. It was so cool to hear everyone singing out and to watch everyone in the band play their hearts out for God!
A great testimony of healing! Wasn't it great to get the report that Dottie is cancer free! It was a total miracle since she has not started medicine! WOW! God rocks!
A great response to Proverbs! In all three services there was a loud applause when asked if everyone was current on their reading! It was a sweet sound to this preacher. Keep up the great work even if you are a little (or a lot) behind! Praise the Lord we also had more families sign up to read with us!
A great job with Memory! In each service folks raised their hands to say they had memorized Proverbs 1:7. We had folks in every service share the verse from memory, way to go! I also heard later that several people didn't raise their hands because they knew I would call on them?! You sure know me well or did Julie Gregory talk to you! LOL!
A great Recognition! I love Graduate Sunday! It is always so cool to "stroll down memory lane". It is a special time for a church to honor and celebrate with our High School and College Graduates. The video tribute was awesome! Congrats to all our graduates. I love you and am very proud of your accomplishments on this earth and for the Kingdom of God!

It wasn't a perfect day, but it sure was a great day! I just love my LCC family! I am honored to serve as your pastor! Can it get better? Will it get better? YES and YES! I can't wait to see what God is going to do next week, and I don't even have a sermon ready yet! :o) Pray for me!

PROVERBS CHALLENGE

As part of the June Sermon series and our "SUMMER SMARTS" here at LCC, we challenged everyone to commit to reading the book of Proverbs during the month of June. I am excited to share that nearly 80 families signed up to share in this fantastic book of the Bible. I know that several folks didn't actually sign their name for prayer and accountability, but are still planning to read. I also received an e-mail from someone in Oklahoma who listened to the sermon online and wanted to be added to the list, PTL! It is my intention to post a couple times a week from my reading in the book of Proverbs. I hope if you are reading this post, you will also join us as we read the book of Proverbs during the month of June.

In closing, I wanted to share this e-mail I received from Mel & Landa Conover:

Just wanted you to know that Melvin is “THRILLED” with Proverbs. We are reading from The Message and 3:7 says: "Don’t assume that you know it all." "Oh that’s not what it says", he said. Then he read it again, "Don’t assume you know it all, Landa." He thought that was SO funny. Then he got to 3:24: "You’ll take afternoon naps without worry." Of course, he highlighted that, too, and off to bed he went!! Proverbs will look like we smashed a lemon between the pages before we’re done.

JAM THE STANDS

Tonight was the night that LCC friends and family were challenged to come and "root" on our softball teams against Eastside Christian. Our goal was 100 people. While we didn't hit that, Jared counted over 60!! AND IT WORKED! WE WON! WE WON! WE WON! The women played a great game and ended up winning 3-2. My wonderful wife also hit in the winning run, way to go hon! Angie Miller also caught the final out with her bare hand after it fell out of her glove, WOW! Oh, I almost forgot, the ladies turned the first double play of the 08 season! What a game.

The men also played very well. We DID NOT have a "Loveland Inning". That is an inning when we look more like the Bad News Bears than a church softball team. We ended up winning 6-2. Keith Wrassmann and Nate Hirsch both had home runs.

The best part of tonight was the fellowship. It was like the softball games of old. In the 90's softball games were the highlight fellowship activity of the week. People would pour in and root on our teams. For many reasons, there are several weeks when we don't have but one or two folks watching and they are usually related to someone playing. Tonight people were everywhere and the cheers were motivation. IT REALLY MADE A DIFFERENCE! Thanks to everyone who took time to be there tonight and if you couldn't make it, we play almost every Monday night. Simply check out our schedule HERE.

Crowds were up once again!
Doran was "Rockin it for Jesus" on the new drum set!
There were lines of people at ALL 3 SERVICES coming forward to pray and commit to reading the book of Proverbs in June!
"He Lives" sounded better than I have ever heard it before!
I met several new friends attending service at LCC for the first time!
More people said they found our church because of our web page!
We gave above and beyond our budget for the 3rd week in a row! The generosity of people in their giving despite the tough economy is AMAZING! Thanks for your faith!!
I saw several new faces that continue to come back and worship with us week after week!
I got to pray with someone in tears as they were leaving church today!
I was able to hug a mother who just lost her adult son to a heart attack.
Vicki Charles gave a testimony about Larry almost drowning and how we all need to make sure we are ready to be with Jesus!
Several people and families who have been missing came "home" today!
The Air Conditioning worked perfectly all morning!
Finally, Jared tells me that we had nearly 80 families commit to the Proverbs reading challenge! GO GOD!

I have always hated Memorial day weekend when it comes to church. Can anyone say: "Ghost town?" However, this year was different. I loved the experience we had on Sunday. Was the crowd large, honestly, I couldn't tell you, I didn't look! It was such a moving service. You see, we didn't have the typical song service, typical sermon, typical communion and offering. Yet, we had all of that and more. It really can't be described. It was incredible. If you missed it, man, maybe church on a holiday would be a good idea?

Thanks to Jared Adamson for dreaming up and organizing this experience of worship. Thanks to Julie Gregory for adding so much to the leadership of this service. Thanks to everyone who hosted communion stations. Thanks to Barb Walchle and Keith Kruse for your great work on the AV side of things. Thanks to the NP-3 Kids who did such a great job in "Big Church". Finally, thanks to everyone who attended and participated. What was it like? Here are a few e-mails I received.

Brian, my young friend, thank you for today's service. For me it was the most worshipful service I have experienced in a very long time. Newer and older songs included! :o) You really are in the right job. (ministry) I know that being a minister is not an easy job but if you keep on trying to please God and not man you can't help but to succeed. FAITH PEEL

Brian, I had to comment on Sunday's service. Dan and I were suppossed to be out of town but our plans fell through at the last minute. I am SO GLAD we did not miss Sunday's service. It was incredible and there was such a worshipful spirit in the church. I was trying to talk to Melanie about it later and it was almost hard to describe. You just had to be there!! Actually the last two services have been great. The one the week before about being a DISCIPLE of Christ meant so much to me too. We got to meet with Dan Bacon last week and he was also talking about some other things that the leadership of LCC has in mind for the future. All I can say is that I feel SO EXCITED and am so glad we found you guys!! Or should I say I am so glad we were led. When we joined the church and you prayed with us you mentioned God taking a bad situation and turning into something good. How true!! Have a good week! ELAINE HENSLEY

THEY'RE BACK

The last time we saw anything like this, I was 21 years old. I was still in college. I had not ever darkened the doors of LCC. Gas was only ???? I won't even go there. My wife was in High School. I didn't have any grey hair. I was about 50 pounds lighter.

What am I talking about? Cicada's! These 17 year visitors started coming out of the ground on Saturday but really made a strong showing today. I imagine we will see many more and then will begin to hear that famous sound..... enjoy the pics....

The next time they come out like this, Caleb will be 22 years old, Lauren will be 20 years old and I will be 55! Jen will be ?? NO, I am not dumb! Ahhhhhh!

some happier things

First of all, WE HAVE NEW CARPET! It is not in our entire home, but our lower level looks brand new. The people who owned our house before us were chain smokers, especially in the basement. We have tried everything, but our house always smelled like a stale ash tray. Thanks to our president and the need to stimulate the economy, we were able to get carpet. Enjoy the before and after pictures and if you are in the area, come by and see it. Just don't wear shoes or eat/drink anything anywhere near the lower level. LOL

Finally, Jennifer and I were able to get a babysitter (thanks Alisha) and go out for the evening. Jen's birthday is Sunday and I wanted to take her out to buy her present. This afternoon I received a call from Gene Hatmaker informing me that he and his wife Sandy wanted to treat us to dinner, WOW! Jen and I went to JC Penny's and then met the Hatmakers at Bravo's. Following our one hour wait we had a wonderful dinner. Thanks again guys, it was so much fun. We then went to Kidd Coffee to listen to Pete and Al play guitar. It was fun to sit around, drink some "foo foo" coffee drinks and talk to different folks. What a great time. my heart breaks

Today I was asked to preside over the funeral of a 39 year old son and nephew of two sisters in our church. His name was Paul Heustis. He passed away from a major heart attack on Saturday. No warning, no sickness, no signs. He went to sleep and never woke up. It is sad and as I said in the service, we will never have answers, but God knows and understands all!

I also heard this morning that singer, songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman's 5 year old daughter Maria Sue passed away after being run over by her older brother driving an SUV. Oh God, NO! How painful. How awful. WHY? Not his "Cinderella". Please pray for the Chapman family. They have blessed so many people and have been such a positive witness for the cause of Christ. If anyone understands untimely, undeserved death, it is our GOD! Please lift both of these families up to Him NOW.

This has been a long, hard day. Not only dealing with death but also: meeting with Dan Bacon, Funeral, graveside, lunch, work, bank, Lauren's IEP meeting, pick up Lauren, Practice for Sunday's service, dinner, giving blood and camp meeting. OH, did I mention that we got brand new carpet down our stairs and in the basement? I will show before and after pics soon. Anyway, with everything today...I need to hug my kids! I need to kiss my kids! I need to hold my wife! We just never know. Take a moment and thank God for the people in your life and make sure to tell them how you feel! We can never say "I love you" enough!

Loveland and beyond...

I know that the sermon's I preach are put on the web, but I don't think I realize just how many folks have opportunity to hear them. Gone are the days of only preaching to those who show up at your particular church on Sunday. Case in point...

My freshman year of college I met a really neat guy by the name of Matt Vermillion. In the last 10 - 15 years I had lost contact with him, but now thanks to Myspace and Facebook we have started talking again. He told me he enjoyed my sermons, but I really didn't think about what that meant, until tonight. Please read what he wrote on my facebook page

Brian, I had to write you after I heard your message from Sunday. Wow. This message needs to be heard everywhere. I have to say I have been involved with the Christian / Churches of Christ since I was 3 years old and I am now going to be 38 in July, and I have never heard a Disciple of Christ lay it on the line as you have. You have touched the part of my battle that I have had with the church for so long. People who come to church and claim to be Christians need to stop playing and get real. I know on your blog you stated "chairman of our Elders, Dan Bacon when he said, "now that was a kick in the rear sermon"." I have to say I am not even sure that can even describe it. I am going to be sending the link to this message to as many people as I can in order to let more people hear the truth that we need to hear in our churches today.

I pray for you and your ministry everyday and all that you are doing. I also am praying for Loveland's leadership to have guidance and protection on them and their flock for I know that the devil is going to be working triple time to stop you, but you and I both know that with the power of God on your side you can not be stoped.

On a personal note you have brought me back to where I needed to be for so long. I have struggled with God on several things in the last 3 to 4 years and I have now realized that it is not about me it is all about Him. He is the one who laid his life down on a cross and saved me. It is he who bore the crown of thorns on his brow. It was lord who took the nails in his hands and feet. And it is my savior who once again who has forgiven me of my wrong thinking and doing. You see I have been so mad at his church for so long that it has affected my relationship with him. But after listening for the last 5 weeks to your sermons all that has changed. I have found my love for him again. His love for me was always there, I am the one who moved away from it and was depriving myself of a WIN. I just wanted you to know if there is ever a time in your mind you think you are not making a difference out in the world. Read this note again and know that you are lying to yourself.

Today was everything I felt God was going to do and more! I think the best quote of the day came from the chairman of our Elders, Dan Bacon when he said, "now that was a kick in the rear sermon". Thank you God for using me, even though I am a sinner and unworthy! WOW!

Dan Ponchot did a great job leading worship along with Doran and Chip! YOU GUYS ROCK! Rhonda Adamson, thanks for your prayer report on that awesome missionary family: Brett, Heather and Fiona Seybold! Now, here is just the "tip of the iceberg" of what I noticed today...

People were really excited to be at LCC!
There was a real anticipation for the message and what God was going to do.
The sermon was sharp, tough, relevant and was heard!
One of our senior saints thanked me and told me that the "knife" went into him about 4 times!
The Holy Spirit was alive and working!
My heart broke for Dorothy Sinclair who lost her Nephew Paul tragically on Friday
Regina Magg poured her heart out in a testimony following the message first service about how God truly works in the bad times and how we need to totally trust in him, Thanks Regina!
Dan & Elaine Hensley joined LCC at the conclusion of 2nd service, WELCOME GUYS!
Mark Jacobs shared a testimony about how a couple people at LCC made a huge impact on his life 4 years ago this weekend when his mother passed away and they drove through tornado's to get there!
All 3 services were well attended!!
Our giving went above budget once again!!
A long lost friend of Heidi Constables "showed up" today and they got to share in worship.
God is using Heidi a lot lately!
Care team was on and God sent a TON of new friends!
My new friend Steve Rose joined us for worship once again today!
A girl from my home church and who lived on the same street I did in Goshen came today for the first time and loved it.
An older gentleman from my home church in Goshen came with his daughter today. I have not heard his name in years!
I got to pray with several folks looking for God's direction in their lives.
Lots of tears but even more hugs and prayer
We sold almost $150 in Beading to Beat Autism Bracelets at Preschool graduation
Preschool graduation was a blessing once again.
Lunch was fantastic!

If you missed the corporate worship experience at LCC, you missed a wonderful Holy Spirit time of refreshing and challenge. IT WAS A GREAT DAY AT LCC! I know a ton of folks will be gone next weekend, but I still can't wait to see what God is going to do through His church in Loveland! How we spent vacation #1 of 08'

As I type this, I sit only 1 day away from the end of my first vacation of 08. I thought I would take a few moments and simply share what vacation consisted of for the Richard family. It was truly an abnormal vacation. It began on Thursday, May 8th with little fan-fare. We had a final IEP meeting for Caleb and then I got to pick Caleb up from school. Friday, we got everything packed up and picked Caleb up from school at 2:00 and we were off...

We arrive at the Cloverdale Super 8 motel around 4:45, got checked in, laid down for a moment and the headed for First Christian Church for a wedding rehearsal. I new it would happen someday and it finally did, I got to perform a wedding ceremony for someone associated with my children's ministry (more later). The Rehearsal went well and so we were eating in the fellowship hall by 7 pm. Patsy Rader (who is an awesome cook) made a wonderful Ham, green beans, and homemade yeast roll dinner. I was then given my surprise for the weekend: LIVER AND ONIONS! She had made it especially for ME! Ahhhhh, she is sooo sweet! We gathered the kids up and headed back to the hotel for some SWIMMING!

I find it interesting that Jen (who packed all of our clothes) forgot her swimsuit...things that make you go hummmmmmm.

Saturday morning, Caleb and I went back into Brazil for a meeting with those from FCC going on our Gulf Coast Relief Trip in July. It was at the Coffee Cup Restaurant and I had a wonderful Mushroom Omelet. We stopped by our good friends Matt and Kathy Boor before heading back to the hotel. For lunch, we went to "grandma Marie & grandpa Frank's house.

The Laroche's were our neighbors in brazil, but have moved to Greencastle. We followed them to a wonderful little family restaurant. Following lunch we dropped our kids off at the Boors and went on to the wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony.

Congratulations to Kevin Litshka & Jade Rader! Jade, you were a beautiful bride!

The reception was also very simple (just cake and punch) and very nice.

Jen and I then went back to the Boors to hang out for the rest of the evening. What fun! Matt grilled out a FEAST, but not before cooking some Morel Mushrooms.

For those who don't understand this delicacy, they can go for $25 a pound and more. They are incredible.

The main meal was even more amazing!

Once back at the hotel, we convinced Lauren & Caleb it was time to sleep and it was lights out.

Sunday, once we got the kids up, we went swimming, packed up and then attended worship at FCC! Great message, Bob! It is always wonderful to see everyone and to worship with our second church family. On our way back to Cincy, we stopped in Shelbyville for Jen's Mother's day lunch at Applebees. Okay, can you say: SLOW! Wow, the service was really bad. Oh well, the food was really good.

We arrived home later that afternoon and simply "hung out".

Monday meant it was WORK time! My first goal was to lay 160 feet of edging around all of our mulch beds. Stretch out the edging, dig the trenches, drive in the stakes, put down the edging, drive it into the ground and then pack it with dirt. Sound easy? NOT! I got most of it finished before it was time to go to our softball games. The girls won but the guys lost! For a complete schedule of games, click HERE.

Today I got up early to finish the edging. I then got everything cleaned up and started to mow the lawn. Jen took Lauren to grandma bells and I met Caleb and Jen at JF Burns elementary for the results of all of Lauren's communication tests. Well, she was well below. In fact, she is over a year behind. What does this mean? Preschool at Kings in the fall with an IEP. I am glad we found out now, but it was a hard pill to swallow. Caleb stayed at school so Jen and I took the opportunity to go to lunch at Mimi's Cafe'. YUMMMERS! I then went back to cutting grass, weeding out my gardens and making sure all our mulch beds were weeded as well. When Caleb got home from school, I took him up to the park to shoot some baskets. This evening, I grilled some pork and we had a nice dinner. The kids are in bed and I am typing here. Here are a few final pics from today and the finished product on the yard and garden...

What about tomorrow? Not sure! It is expected to rain and be nasty. Maybe I will just stay in and relax. One thing is for sure, come Thursday, it is back to work!

It was such a fantastic day on Sunday that it took me a few days to gather my thoughts. First of all, thanks to the CrosSeeker Youth Choir and Youth Jazz Band from First Christian Church, Brazil, Indiana for blessing us at all three morning services. It was a special morning of worship for many reasons. First of all, "my kids" from my former ministry at FCC were all grown up and were sharing at the church I love here in Ohio. It brought me to tears several times as I listened to each of them use their talents for God's glory. It was a neat feeling to preach with all of them packed in the first three rows. Thanks for the memory and blessing I will not soon forget. Secondly, Jared was truly humble and used by God as he lead our song service from the Piano. I missed the band, but was blessed at all three services to hear voices raised with such strength and sincerity. Finally, it was heartwarming to pray with several people pouring their hearts out to God in the front of the Worship Center.

I spent the afternoon with the group from Brazil. It was so nice to just talk, remember and share future with these "kids"! The Lord blessed us with a beautiful day. The highlight for me was sitting on the playground clubhouse and just talking.

However, while I hung out with them, I noticed some activity going on around the church. I found out that several folks came back to work on our landscape. Thanks to Sharyn Bacon for killing all the weeds. Thanks to Gene Hatmaker for pulling out a dead tree and trimming those crazy shrubs in front of the office windows. Thanks to Tessa and kids for clearing out our mulch beds. All of these jobs were essential to prepare for MULCH MADNESS scheduled for this Saturday.

Finally, evening came and the FCC kids really blessed everyone in attendance. WAITERS was truly an awesome and thought provoking program. I was so proud of everyone. Oh, and the Jazz Band, how cool? Great job on your impromptu number! I was thankful for the $220+ offering collected to help offset the travel expenses. The cookie and punch reception following was first class. Thanks to everyone who pulled it off and cleaned it up. In fact, thanks to Anne Fulks and the Food Service Ministry for serving the teens and host families dinner on Saturday. Thanks to all of our wonderful host families who provided a bed and a warm welcome. Thanks to Rhonda Adamson for providing dinner on Sunday evening.

I just love my LCC Family and I am blessed to forever have my FCC Family!!

let my garden grow

If you know me, you know that I love to have a garden. Thanks to Darren Myers allowing me to borrow his "tiller" once again this year and to God for holding off the rain until after 3:30 today, OUR GARDEN IS IN! This year we have expanded from one to two gardens. We added a total sun garden inside our Dog's pin (yes, it is fenced off, so there won't be dog slobber on anything). Here is what we planted

Red Tomatoes
Cherry Tomatoes
Watermelon
Cantaloupe
Sweet Peppers
Green Onions
Green Beans
Zucchini
Radish
Lettuce
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Cucumber
We also planted Asparagus but won't have any until next year

I began my day by having coffee at Kidd with one of my closest friends and partner in ministry, Keith Wrassmann. He always has a "fresh word" from God and a great perspective about life and ministry. I always leave challenged and encouraged. Thanks Keith, I am so thankful that God brought you into my life. WE MUST GOLF SOON!

I really have a great staff at LCC. Today was our first "monthly staff lunch". We will be meeting together on the last Wednesday of every month at noon for a delicious lunch provided by the Food Service Ministry of LCC (thanks Lynn), a encouragement and prayer time and a book study. Our first study is the book Simple Church. We only got into the first chapter but it was a time of stretching and growth for all of us. I know that there were moments of frustration and even disagreement, but I walked out of that room feeling extremely excited about the future. Thanks Jared, Dan & Holly (we missed you Tawnya)! I am blessed to work alongside each of you.

This evening I got to share a meal with my family. Truly the best part of my life! Lauren slept through dinner, but she was still close by. Caleb, Jen and I enjoyed the few moments of peace and quiet. I am so thankful that we continue to protect (as often as it is possible) our dinner time.

The day concluded with our D-Group meeting. I have said it many times, but I LOVE OUR GROUP! We had a full living room at the Temple's tonight. It was obvious that everyone wanted to be there and wanted to share life and relationship. We got so much accomplished this evening and had a great study time. We finished week 1 of ? on baptism. I love the mix of our group. I think we have almost every denomination and background covered. The cool thing is that EVERYONE is hungry for Truth! It is going to be an amazing study and I truly believe that Eternity will look differently in the next few weeks.

Finally, can I offer some reading encouragement for anyone in ministry. Read Philippians 1! I realized that Paul and Timothy (staff) is speaking to the entire church and especially the deacons and elders. He says that they are ALL partners in ministry, he says that they pray in joy for ALL of them, he says that he has them ALL in his heart and then offers an amazing prayer for them. I JUST LOVE HIS ATTITUDE. Ministry is hard. Communication is difficult. Keeping pride out of the way is almost impossible. Oh, that I would pray this prayer for my elders, deacons, congregation...why can't I? Anyone want to join me?

"WAITERS" AT LCC THIS SUNDAY

I am very excited to share about a special program being presented this Sunday evening at my church. The youth choir "CrosSeekers" and teen Jazz band from First Christian Church, Brazil, Indiana, will be sharing their ministry at 6 pm. This free event is open for everyone and is relevant for all ages. There will also be a punch/cookie reception immediately following the program in the foyer. Anyone reading this is strongly encouraged to attend. Don't miss this special night of music presenting a valuable and timely message for each of us about God's Will in our lives.

Would you like to hear a sample? Come to one of our three services at LCC this Sunday morning. The Jazz band will be performing our Prelude and "CrosSeekers" will be leading our special music. Service times are 8:45, 10 & 11:15 am.

I was so focused on what God was pressing me to say this Sunday that I was just simply zoned out. I felt a little like John when he said that he was "in the Spirit on the Lord's day." I was so intense that I didn't look at anyone. I didn't pray with anyone. I didn't notice anything. I just preached my heart out. I know that not everyone is 100% behind the content of my message on Sunday and if that is you, I simply pray that we can study Scripture together. I am honestly and genuinely seeking truth! God's Word seems so clear to me when it comes to being "saved", how you get to that condition, what it means to be there and what is expected from us while being there. Hummmm. Anyway, as far as this blog entry, I would like to do something different this week. IF YOU WERE AT LCC AND YOU ARE READING THIS,

Kidd Coffee 20 Mile Stand

I want to say a special thank you to Bryan, Howard and Carol Converse and everyone at Kidd Coffee for sponsoring LCC Day on Monday of this week. The final total came in with 70 LCC friends stopping by and a total of $100 donated from Kidd toward our Gulf Coast Relief Mission Trip. We will be planning one more of these special days before our trip. I would like to ask anyone and everyone near Landen to please fight the traffic, budget some money and make it a regular habit to stop by and support this incredible Christian buisness. Way to go LCC! It was obvious that everyone spent a lot of time praying and inviting! WOW! The cool thing about Sunday was not only the fact that people had to create new parking spots because we were out of parking! It was not only that NP-3 was packed with elementary kids and that we signed in more than a dozen brand new kids! It was not only that our Care Ministry team members were so busy they were not sure if they were coming or going and that they had to recruit others to help! It was not only that we cracked that 400 mark once again! It was not only that we closed in on $10,000 in our giving! It was not only that the choir sounded amazing and "rocked it out"! It was not only that the band really used their gifts to glorify God! It was not only that we learned how "man looks on the outside, but God looks on the heart". Well, maybe it was all of those things and so much more! I honestly cannot write everything that God was doing at LCC on Sunday. It was just a God-filled amazing day!

The thing that really sticks out in my mind was how God answered our prayers! Allow me to explain. You see, we pray every week, that God will send us people who need...and He did. I met and prayed with tons of people on Sunday. People searching for Christ. People who just need healing. People who are looking for a growing and vibrant community to worship and serve. People with hurts. People coming to church simply because someone who cared invited them. People celebrating victory in their lives. Old friends and new friends alike! I have heard so many stories about people sharing with each other and praying together. It was amazing! Remember, EVERY SUNDAY IS FRIEND DAY AT LCC!

Finally, I want to say, THANK YOU to everyone who made Sunday such a great opportunity to minister to our community, family and friends! From coffee ministry, communion preparation, teachers, servers, care ministry, parking attendants and anyone else, It is a true blessing to serve alongside all of you.

Friend day is over, but really, it has just begun, so now, let's all PRAY! Did you know that God sent us like 15 families that indicated they are searching for a home church? Pray! People are hungry for genuine community and we have some of the best. Wanna know how to help? See me ASAP! I cannot wait to see what God is going to do next Sunday! Remember, live it everyday! Worship all the time and never miss a chance to share the "good news"!

My lucky number used to be 7, but now, it is 8, at least for one more year. You see, today is my 8th anniversary. It is not easy to be a mom, it is not easy to be a wife, it is not easy to be a homemaker, it is not easy to live on one income, it is not easy to be a preacher's wife, it is not easy to be MRS. RICHARD, need I say more? There is only one person in this entire world that has the gifts and ability and patience for this special task, and PRAISE GOD I FOUND HER! I love you Jen! I don't say it enough. You are everything I need to make me a complete man of God! Our life is tough, but God is good! I am so thankful that you were put in my life at just the right time. I am so glad that God chose you for me. How many wives would be cool with their husband going to a Deans meeting at camp followed by a deacons meeting with church on their "big day"? You are one of a kind and I am the most blessed man alive! I cannot wait to celebrate on Friday evening! I LOVE YOU TONS! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SWEETIE!

Running out of church

I am used to hearing lots of reasons why people don't go to church or run out before the sermon, but this one was classic! Honestly, it is a really cute story and it really happened this Sunday to a mom and daughter at LCC. They have given me permission to reprint the story. Enjoy...

I just had to pass on this to you cause I thought it sweet but funny.Sarah, my 12 year old daughter and I were running late for church, as usual. She has 3 Guinea pigs and she said she was going to bring Citrina, the one which is her favorite, to church. She came out of her room with the pig in a canvas bag with a zipper.I insisted she couldn't take the pig to church and she didn't like it, but she complied with my decision.Well, we arrived at church and during the second song, she looked at me tearfully and said--did I put Citrina pig back in her cage? I said I didn't know. I said where did you leave her? She indicated that she put her down on my footstool in the family room in the bag. She began to cry.Well--if you didn't know, we have a Jack Russell dog who loves getting mice, chipmunks, and has actually killed one of her pigs. She was frantic. I said lets go and check it out. We left church and rushed home.Sarah went flying into the house to check out the pigs demise??? Well, thankfully, the pig was still sitting on the footstool and the dogs had not even realized that she was there. All was well......The end of the story???? Sarah said lets go back to church...I told her by the time we would get there that communion would be over and it would be distracting.......I sat down to relax..after all the commotion, and she came to me with a piece of bread and a cup of cranberry juice...she said this is our communion--I said well, actually we should have unleven bread and fruit of the vine, but in this case I suppose God would understand. We communed together.I guess the teaching does sink in even though we as parents think are kids aren't listening.......I hope they only listen to the good things, but I know they are open to everything we say and do; our example is so important.

That is the best "View Beyond the Pew" I could give. For those of you who wait for that weekly blog, let me say, Sunday was awesome in every way! People were praying with each other, God sent us like 10 brand new friends, the prayer cushions were completely full and people were waiting in line to bow in prayer, folks were laying hands on others and agreeing with them, the band was rockin again (great to have you back on the drums Doran), the PEEPS series was a great hit, the D-group/Elders and spouse lunch and training was SPIRIT-FILLED! I understand that Impact on Sunday night was intense! I am amazed at what God is doing at LCC! What does this Sunday hold in store? Remember, it is FRIEND DAY! Take a chance, invite your friends and family, I DARE YOU!

Hi, Brian! I just wanted to let you know that I thought that yesterday’s sermon on friends was AWESOME! Before coming to LCC, I was one of the friends on the outside. If it weren’t for someone reaching out to me from the church, I never would have become a Christian. Eleven years ago, I was blessed enough to meet Alicia Weber. It was my first year of teaching and she was “assigned” as my mentor. Little did I know that she was not only my mentor at work, but she would be my mentor in my journey with Christ! I cannot tell you how thankful I am that God put her into my life. She (and Kurt) prayed for Brian and I to come to church all during our friendship. It took nine years before we finally ended up coming to LCC. My point is that if she hadn’t been willing to have friends outside of church, who knows where Brian and I would be today! She loved us, and showed us what she and her family had, we wanted that for our family, too! Thank you for spreading that word (yesterday) to others!

View Beyond The Pew

I know it has been a long while since I have shared my "view beyond the pew" blog entries. My attitude in ministry has just not been what it should, but since I have really worked on a new attitude, I think it will be easier to write each week. Anyway, here goes...

Sunday was sweet at LCC! We had great crowds in all three services. There were tons of new faces as well as some former LCC people making a surprise visit (Ron and Nancy Gray; Keith and LaVonne Linville). From beginning to end there was just a special spirit in the air.

Jared just returned from the National Church Music Conference and you could tell he was charged back up. It was so cool to start our service with "Holy, Holy, Holy" only with our voices. I had "God Bumps". From that point it only got better. Chip and John were great on guitar and Jared was really "tickling the ivory's". Donna Julliard did a fantastic job with the Missions Moment about Woodland lakes Christian Camp. We had a special guest with us during our third service. Jay and Romola Henry from the Mid-India Christian Mission had just arrived from India and stopped by to share a few moments with us. It was great to pray for them and their ministry. There was a great response to the second sermon in our "PEEPS" series. Remember church, it is so important that each of us invest in friendships outside of the church for the purpose of helping people grow closer to God. Want to hear more about it? Oh wait, I forgot to mention that God's family gave almost $12,000 in offering! PRAISE THE LORD! It is such an honor and privilege to serve as your preacher! I LOVE MY LCC FAMILY! The View Beyond the Pew this week was contagious and powerful! I cannot wait to gather together next Sunday! Don't miss a moment of community life at LCC.

now that is ministry

So, on Tuesday, I go into the office with a changed heart and attitude. I seek God's Word. I ask the questions from my last blog and then asked God to shower me with people to love and care for and serve. WHAM... minutes later, I get to sit down with a great guy whose father is in the process of dying and share some great stuff. We prayed together. It was an awesome hour. I ran into one of our church members and Meijers and actually took time to talk and share. I got a chance to give counsel to a distraught parent who had just found out about sin in her teens life. I came home for lunch with my family and had no sadness or stress. I was lead to call some folks who have started coming to LCC and just minister to some of their hurts. I called someone who has made the decision leave LCC and go with her family to another church in order to support the family and stay unified and I was able to share that I supported her decision and was proud of her. The Lord gave me opportunity to talk with someone who had not been at church for awhile while her kids took piano lessons at our house and now she is coming back this Sunday.

Moral of the story...Watch out when your heart gets right and your attitude is transformed and you live in your purpose, because GOD WILL ANSWER THOSE PRAYERS!

Thanks God for allowing me to minister! It's not about me, It's not about church, it's about truly living a life that is characterized by a "Loved to love" attitude. You are awesome God. I really can't wait to see what you have in store for me tomorrow. The most exciting thing is what you are going to do ON SUNDAY! I can't wait! Amen!

i have to quit

I made a very important decision today: I have to quit! I just can't keep living like this! I cannot keep it up any longer! It is going to kill me! It is going to burn me up and out! What am I talking about?

My job at LCC, NO!
My D-group leadership, NO!
My Minister's Group, NO!
Being a husband, NO!
Being a father, NO!
My coffee meetings, NO!
Being a Friend, NO!
Blogging, NO!

Then what is it? I am glad you asked. It is really very simple - I have to quit playing the game called: Church competition and church growth success. Otherwise known as MINISTRY in AMERICAN CHURCHES!

For a long time I have measured success in ministry within the local church by numbers, programs, building size, number of active ministries and if we were "beating" the other churches in our area. It has to STOP! Afterall, How do you actually win? What is the prize? Who actually receives the glory? How do you stop the jealousy? It is a no-win situation. While I have known this in my head, it finally has found my heart.

The reality is: There will always be a bigger church than LCC. Someone will always have better programs than LCC. There will always be a cooler, bigger more functunal church building than we can afford at LCC. People will always find a church that has more ministries than LCC.

I realized today that I just can't live by this unBiblical standard of success(mostly self-afflicted). The standard that is determined by how many we had in worship Sunday as compared to last year, or even more prevelant, how many less we had than Christ Church at Mason, RiverHills, Northstar Vineyard, Eastside Christian or New Hope Baptist (add any church) had in worship on Sunday. I know there is a place for numbers (God has a whole book dedicated to it). I also know that "what doesn't get tracked, doesn't get done". I am not suggesting that we get rid of all numbers, I just need to stop using it to measure success and failure.

Since I need to quit (not sure it is going to be easy for me, because I have always been competetive and a numbers person) I need to fill my heart with something else. I need to redefine or rediscover what is truly success in ministry. Any ideas...

Here is a novel idea, I could gauge daily success in ministry by answering some of these questions...

Did I practice "loved to love" in my life?
Did I take the time to share in community?
Did I pray for my church family, friends and our community?
Did I take opportunity to share Christ with people put in my path?
Did I put my family above anything else?
Did I enjoy personal quality time with Christ?
Did I shut up and settle down long enough to let Christ talk to me?

I could actually measure the success of our Sunday experience by answering some of these questions:

Did I pray with anyone this morning?
Did I allow God to use me as a miracle in someone's life?
Did I pray & preach HIS WORDS?
Was someone touched by God at LCC today?
Were we ready and did God send us people who needed something today?
Did I love?
Did I appreciate the people serving at LCC?
Did GOD SHOW UP?

Honestly, this could get me fired. I mean, there is nothing in there about growing the church, or is there? My heart is just backwards. I have put the "cart before the horse". God wants to grow the church, God wants to see LCC doing more than we could even dream of. He just has a different way of determining success.

What woke me up? Lots of things, but the biggest "slap" was the fact that we have only had 1 baptism in 6 months at LCC and nobody even really noticed, including ME!

Easter Review

Hi everyone. It has been a while since I have blogged. Following Easter services at LCC and a nice buffet lunch at the Oasis in Loveland, the Richard family headed for Indianapolis for a couple days away. I will blog about that and include some pics in the next couple of days. For now, I wanted to give a few of my perspectives on Easter at LCC.

First of all it was energetic! The choir was really excited. The band was playing their hearts out. Jared was leading with passion. All of these folks really wanted to be there and it showed, even though, many of them were at church from 7am on. We offered 4 services on Easter and found out we could of managed with 3. The 8 am service was not well attended to say the least, but the cool thing was that everyone participating gave 100% and the low attendance did not quench the Spirit whatsoever. In fact, my strongest sermon was delivered during that service. From the first note at 8 am through the final one at 12:15 there was an amazing energy level! I could tell that we were celebrating that CHRIST WAS ALIVE.

Secondly it was God-lead! We never just throw sermon's or services together. Jared and I try hard to work together well in advance to make sure that what is experienced is meaningful and purposeful. However, everything we do is girded with prayer and lead by God's Spirit. For some time now, we have been lead toward a less "traditional" type of service. The sermon was not your typical Easter message and the style/selection/format of the service was not what you would expect on Easter. Here is the cool thing, it was exactly what we needed and exactly what God wanted. You see, only God knew who would be there on Sunday, what everyone would need and what would be the perfect songs and message! WOW! It is so cool to serve a living God.

Finally, it was NOT record-breaking! Is that a good thing? Well, I would of loved a record crowd. Last year we had 470, the highest one Sunday attendance in our history. Two years prior we had 403! This year, 379. Here is the cool part...God sent us a ton of folks that need healing and need a church home. Every FTA (first time attender) is actually looking for a church and some are wanting to find Christ. We didn't have the normal "Easter Christians" just looking to go to church on Easter, because that is what you have to do. I am very excited about those who came to LCC. Guys, it really is NOT about the numbers! God is still teaching me this!

Thanks Lord for an amazing energetic, God-lead and non record breaking Easter!! You are going to do something amazing through it! Thank you for everyone who gave so much toward this very special 4-service Sunday. Thanks for the message that showed us your desire for us to be willing and then surrender whatever it takes to fulfill your mission and to give someone in our life an eternal outlook with you. It was an amazing day. The cool thing is, we have not seen anything yet! In Christ, AMEN!

beat up by an 8-year old!!

It is hard to admit, but oh so true. Last evening we were invited to the Pachta's home for an amazing enchilada dinner and some great fun. Little did I know that they had recently purchased a Wii! It was my first time playing, but I AM HOOKED! Yes, I want one now! I know, I know, FINANCIAL PEACE! Anyway, I started with bowling, that wasn't too bad.

I then moved to the home run derby on baseball and didn't do as well. Finally, I opened my trap (which I tend to do often) and told Shayla Pachta (8-years old) that I could beat her in boxing. Now, not only has she done this game a lot, but she has beat everyone she has faced. Why would I think that I could put her on the mat and beat her? I can't understand how my brain works most of the time.

Anyway, the rest is history. I almost had a heart attack trying to box her and I don't know if I ever laid a hand on her. She was amazing. Before I knew it, I was on the mat. My character got up and then WHAM I was on the mat again. I don't know what my character was thinking but once again I was fighting and before I knew it, WHAM, stars, lights out, ON THE MAT! Shayla, you are amazing! Pachta's we had a blast, THANK YOU! Cadigan's, having you there with us made the evening a truly wonderful event. SHAYLA, I will practice, I will get better, I will get in shape and then... :o)

LCC Easter Egg Hunt!

The egg hunt was such a blast it left Samantha speechless...

Thanks to Jared and Patty Pachta (and family) for all the hard work in preparation as well and pulling the event off this morning.

There were a ton of kids and even more easter eggs. They decided during the near blizzard last weekend that the event would be held inside and all I can say is "great decision"! Michala Riggle Bracelet Distribution Center North

We have opened. "We" is me, "have opened" means that I am selling bracelets from the Cincy area! Bottom line, can I sell you a bracelet? The bracelets are $3 a piece and the money goes toward Michala's goal of 3 hundred million dollars to build an autism research center. BEADING TO BEAT AUTISM! Make sure to see my February 26th blog entry to learn much more about Michala and her ministry. Okay, so let me share how the first sales of the DISTRIBUTION CENTER NORTH started this week...

I received about 200 bracelets in the mail from Louisville on Wednesday and I headed to Union Savings Bank in Loveland. They had seen my bracelets and told me that they wanted to purchase a few. When I arrived, there were only 2 tellers working but between them they purchased and donated $36 worth. Thanks Phyllis and Barbara. I will be back to US soon.

Today I was invited to the office where Donna Julliard (a lady from LCC) works. I was blown away by the response. I sold almost 100 bracelets to about 15 people. One lady bought $177 worth. Praise the Lord. Thanks Donna, way to go!

They are already sending me another shipment from Louisville to sell up here in the cincy area. If you would like to purchase a bracelet or two or ?? please comment here or e-mail me and we can work something out. My eyes are now set on the North American Christian Convention here in Cincy in July. We have purchased booth space and hope to sell thousands. Hey all! I must admit my lack of faith. When we left for our ONE service on Sunday, we pulled onto Montgomery road and all was good. Then we turned on Columbia and it was completely covered in snow. I turned to Jen and said "my guess is 20 for today!" She looked at me and said, "no, I think 50!" We were talking about the people that would show up at church and boy were we WRONG! What a Sunday! It was one of the best services we have had in a year. The band was ON! The singing was incredible! People were excited to be there! All our kids ministries went on and didn't miss a beat! The sidewalk was shoveled (thanks to everyone)! The drive was clean! We had bulletins (although not folded)! The worship center was full! People were parking on the sides of the entrance drive! God blessed us with 170 excited folks! I even heard there were 30 kids at NP-3, WOW! You could tell that everyone made a sacrifice to get there and they were glad they came. It showed in the laughter, the singing, the hugs and the smiles.

No judgement here, but I know that some folks around the cincinnati area (not any LCC peeps) took the day "off" to just rest and used the snow as an excuse from getting to church. Many others just couldn't get out and many didn't want to risk it. I totally understand. We are all adults and make our own decisions. If I wasn't the preacher, we may of stayed home also. But in this case, I am so glad we didn't, I would not of wanted to miss a moment of what God did at LCC. Bottom line... IT WAS AN AMAZING SUNDAY! WE LOVE YOU! WE MISSED YOU! WE CAN'T WAIT TO WORSHIP WITH YOU ON SUDNAY! One other thing, if you missed the service and would like a copy of the sermon, please call the church office or e-mail me! It was the second sermon in this series and most likely the strongest message in the series!

THEN came PERFECT SOUTH SLOPES! Let me explain. We have a great sledding hill at our house and I offered a free day of enjoyment to EVERYONE at church on Sunday. I didn't think many would actually come (my lack of faith again)! Well, I was wrong again (I am batting .1000). We had almost 40 people come by to enjoy a March afternoon on the slopes. Snowmen, Snow forts, Snowball fights, sledding, laughter, friendship and fun! WHAT A DAY! Thanks to everyone who came over to enjoy this gift God has given us! The whole day was just another reason I just love the family of God! I am so blessed to be your pastor! Enjoy the pics...

Blizzard 08'

It began with predictions on Thursday night...

It started to snow around 8 am on Friday...

It snowed harder and faster than most thought, by 11:30 it was really snowing and schools were sending kids home...

Decided to take the kids out and play around 2:30. Man, it was coming down and we had about 5 inches or so. Jen shoveled our walk and I took that snow, packed it into our recycling bin and made a snow fort frontage. Avery (our neighbor) helped out too. Caleb and Lauren also went down the hill on their first sled ride of the year. We finally went in, had some hot chocolate and ordered Domino's pizza for dinner.

If you didn't know, I am a weather geek and I LOVE what Rich Appuzo has done with http://www.skyeyeweather.com/ make sure to check the site out ASAP. He has a forum also and so around 10 pm, I settled into the basement with my computer, cameras, glass or water and girl scout cookies. Watched the heavy snow bands setting up, took some pictures, talked on the forum and then finally went to bed about 2:30 am with about 7 inches on the ground...

Woke up around 6:30 am to 11 inches of snow! :o) Was happy with that, figured maybe a little more, but since a dry slot was forming, that might be all. Well... the dry slot filled in quickly and before we knew it the snow was falling again. We were all out playing in the snow again around 9:30 am and by 10:30 we were in "white out" conditions. I mean the snow was really coming down in buckets, the wind was gusting to over 30 mph and it was awesome. Enjoy these pics...

Finally, it was over around 4:00 pm! We finished with around 14 inches of snow, actually more when you consider that so much blew off and drifted. The highest drift I found was 18 inches. Plan to sled and play a lot more tomorrow after church. Thank you God, this was a great present! :o)

Now the snow has all but stopped and the sun is out! How beautiful the whole thing was. If you don't live near here, I sure hope you enjoyed the "blogger" version of the blizzard of 2008.

I cannot believe that February 25, 1970 is now 38 years past! Even though I am having a hard time with the idea that I am much closer to 40 than 30, I have to say, I had a great birthday last week. It started with Michala and her family coming into town. One of the reasons we chose that weekend was because it was my birthday on Monday. They surprised me with a great gift bag including a "Beading to Beat Autism" T-shirt, Coffee Travel Mug, A pocket sized Bible and a stone cross bracelet made by Michala. Thanks Riggle family! On Monday evening Jen, Caleb and Lauren gave me a gift bag with two new shirts and pants inside. They were sharp! Thanks guys! We concluded the birthday with dinner out, my choice... RED ROBYN! I just love the Banzai Burger and endless fries, not to mention the free ice cream for my big day!

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, sent a card or gifts, e-mailed or called. I appreciate each one of you.

The birthday week slowed down until Thursday evening. Chris Irwin flew in from Guayaquil Ecuador South America to celebrate with me. Well, actually, he was flown in by First Christian Church, Springfield, Ohio to preach this weekend. He also had several appointments including a trip to Chicago and Indianapolis. But, he did fit the Richard family in and as a result got a free dinner at Skyline!

You see, my parents and the Eversole's (my sisters family) joined us at Landen Skyline to celebrate my 38! We had a great dinner and then went back to our house for dessert and gifts. Thanks for the clothes and money and especially the CHERRY CHEESE CAKE and ICE CREAM!

It was a great day, I mean WEEK! Gotta love birthday's! Wait and see if I still feel that way in 2 years...UGH!

What a weekend. I was blessed to spend a lot of time with Michala Riggle and her family. I cannot believe what started out in the fall as an article in the Southeast Outlook Newspaper about a cute girl sharing faith and helping her brother became a weekend I will never forget at LCC! I want to thank everyone at LCC, Loveland Christian Preschool, JF Burns Elementary & Loveland Intermediate School for all the bracelets purchased as well as the donations made. When all was said and done this weekend we raised $4800 for Beading to Beat Autism! Praise the Lord.

I want to say a special thanks to my discipleship group for pitching in to help in so many ways. First of all, you sold bracelets for many weeks at church. We gathered at church early on Saturday morning to decorate and prepare the church for the potluck dinner. The Millers opened their home and many folks came to share dinner with the Riggle family on Saturday night. You supported the swim night at Coco Key Resort. I love my D-group!

What now? Well, as Michala told us on Sunday during service... 1. donate money to the cause, 2. Make your own bracelets and sell them and send the money or 3. PRAY! Jennifer and I have purchased booth space on behalf of LCC and BEADING TO BEAT AUTISM at the North American Christian Convention in July! This will take place at the Duke Energy Center downtown. HOOSIER HOME!

I returned home (just before the winter storm) yesterday from my trip to Brazil, Indiana. Despite the fact that Dellmo and I played 24 games of ping pong, it was a work trip. I arrived on Tuesday afternoon and spent some time running around town and meeting with some folks. I got a chance to take a walk in the park (it was soooooo cold). I was invited to a LIVER AND ONION dinner at the home of Frank & Patsy Rader. Not only was the food YUMMY, I also got to see most of the family. Thanks guys for a great time
On Tuesday night I led a meeting at FCC about our mission trip to the Gulf Coast. I was pleased to see that almost 10 folks showed up and many others showed interest. We are going to have a great trip. If you would like to go, check out my last posting. I got to Dellmo's house about 8:30 and we met to "brainstorm" some summer camp ideas. We started our PING PONG tournament around 9:45 or so. 12 games were played, and I narrowly kept a 2 game lead.
Wednesday I got up to speak and headed to Cornerstone Christian Academy to speak at chapel at 10 am. Well, the problem came when I got there to find out that chapel was at 8:45. UGGGHHH! I did chapel for like 2 years, where did 10 am come from? Thanks Corinna for being so understanding and thanks Bob Witte for filling in. I ate lunch at a wonderful place in Brazil called Simply Decadent, I would suggest if you live in that area to try it out. Finally, I arrived at Harvest Prayer Ministry for an afternoon of prayer, worship, study and sermon prep. What a wonderful experience. Here are just a few pics from that place...

Wednesday evening I stopped by to see Matt, Kathy, Shane and Logan Boor. We got Wendy's for dinner and enjoyed a great time of "catching up". Thanks Boors! I then returned to Dellmo's to meet with Dellmo and Jimbo to put some final touches on the early plans for camp. It was a great time. We also checked out the Lunar eclipse from time to time...
Then the final 12 games took place. I have to admit, Dellmo was better than he has ever been and many times I figured the Trophy would end up staying in Ohio. Well, I think it was my afternoon of praying that finally paid off and sure enough, I squeaked by with a victory. Final score: Mr. Brian 13, Dellmo 11! Here is the proof...

MISSION TRIP IN THE WORKS!

First of all I apologize for not blogging for such a long period of time. THE FLU GOT AHOLD OF ME! Wow, it has been a while since I have felt that badly for that length of time. Thanks for your prayers, concerns and well wishes.

UPDATE... We had around 25 people attend our first informational meeting concerning the Gulf Coast Relief Mission Trip taking place in July of 08'. On top of that great turn out, our "other church" First Christian in Brazil, Indiana is also planning to join our group and work with us. I will be in Brazil in a couple weeks and will lead a meeting at FCC on Tuesday, February 19th at 7 pm. Check out their website for more info www.fccbrazil.org

Victory again on a great night!

Caleb stayed in the worship center for almost the entire celebration service tonight. We had to sit in the back, we had to break through the roped off area, we had to use earphones, we had to allow him to lay down on the pew, BUT HE DID IT! Thanks to JEN for not giving up and making this happen, you are a great momma! Thanks to everyone at LCC for being so supportive. Thanks to Mrs. Hoffman, his kindergarten teacher at JF Burns for all the time and special energy put into Caleb, it showed tonight. Thanks to everyone at JF Burns for all their support. Thanks to Caleb's extended family who never quit loving him. Thanks to everyone who has prayed and continues to pray for Caleb. Oh, and get this, at one point in the service he even walked with mom to the front of the worship center while she wrote a list of her blessings and the entire band was playing at the time! YES! YES! YES! thank you GOD!

The service tonight was awesome. Thanks to Jared for following the prompting of God and for leading us in a wonderful time of praise and reflection. Thanks to our LCC band, you guys rock! Thanks to the choir, they were really ON! Thanks to everyone who took time to worship with us this evening. WOW! God was praised and we were BLESSED!

Jen got to go out for the evening with the band (she deserves many nights out, so I was glad she got this one) and I got to go home and enjoy my kids. We modeled hats right before bed, enjoy the pics...

victory today

We always look for the little things and point to them as victories. One of those moments happened tonight. Jen was gone to a meeting and I was having a blast as Mr. dad. Caleb decided he wanted to try Playstation 2 and the game "Curious George". What that usually means is that Caleb wants to watch dad play the game. Like riding his bike, Caleb just has not been able to figure out how to use the controllers. So, I got it ready fully expecting to do the playing. Well, off he went. He was patient and persistent. He kept trying and suddenly he was past the first level, then the second, then the third. He did get stuck on a bridge that is really hard and then on the lilly pads, but man, he was moving. I was so proud of him and told him so many times. He got frustrated from time to time, almost shed a couple cheers but he DID IT! The first thing he told mom when she got home was that HE DID IT!
For most parents with a 5 year old boy being able to accomplish a couple levels in a video game is not biggie, but for us, it was another huge milestone. WAY TO GO CALEB, DADDY IS SO PROUD OF YOU!

The Day Finally Came

While at Middler camp in June of 07' Jennifer called Children's Hospital to make an appointment for Caleb. The first available for this type of observation was Thursday, January 17th. It finally arrived. We left the house around 8 am and dropped Lauren off at her Grandma Bell's. Jen, Caleb and I headed toward town.

We arrived at Children's around 9:30 am. What an awesome place. We are very blessed to have this hospital in our back yard. From the minute we arrived, they were helpful and concerned. The nurses, doctors, residents were all very personal and professional. They called Caleb "Prince" because he was so charming. He did great! We were at the Hospital until after Noon. I will give you an idea what they said in a moment.
One of the reasons that caleb was so good was the BRIBE! We promised if he was good, he loves shrimp. He wanted to sit by himself in his booth and to completely order his lunch himself. He did an incredible job. We had a wonderful lunch and finally headed back to Grandma Bell's.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and genuine concern. We don't know much more than we did, but at least we are making progress. Following a lot of questions and observation they confirmed our belief that Caleb is most likely somewhere in the "Autism Spectrum". We are looking at Asburgers (sp?) Syndrome or possibly Non Verbal Learning Disorder. It could be one of these, a mix of these or none of these. It could be simply a large anxiety problem. We have scheduled 3 other appointments over the next 3 months and will be scheduling a couple more. By May of 08' (almost a year from starting this) we should have a good idea and a direction for Caleb to move.

Another piece of good news. Last week Caleb's school (JF BURNS) in the Kings School District agreed that Caleb had enough delays to start the process of an IEP (Individual Educational Program) even without any diagnosis. We are praising God for this. If you are looking for a great, awesome, caring, personal, incredible school district to move into, I highly recommend the Kings School district and especially JF BURNS!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY GIRL!

January 13th is a very special day in our family. It was the day (3 years ago) that Lauren Jessica Richard was born. She has become our little "princess". While the day did not feature a lot of "fan-fare" it still ended up a very nice day. It began with church. She learned "Jesus Loves Me" and has been singing it throughout the day. THANKS TO KURT, ALICIA WEBER and also to NANCY ROSE (and any other volunteers at LCC) who take the time to help shape our kids into followers of Christ.

After church we joined several of our new friends to LCC and enjoyed a delicious Domino's Pizza and bread stick lunch. Our family just loves Pizza With The Preacher! It was nice to relax and share with folks that God has lead to LCC in the past few months.

This afternoon we all just "hung out" at home. It was nice. We watched football, played, laughed and just enjoyed being a family. At one point, the entire Richard family sat together on the couch, a special moment indeed.

This evening we were invited to Grandma and Grandpa Bell's house (thanks for the invite) but decided to decline because we had planned a special "Richard family only" evening out. We used gift certificates from Christmas and had a wonderful meal at Red Robyn! YUMMY! We realized that the last time we went to RR (about a year ago) we were not able to finish our meal because Lauren threw such a fit that we had to leave. HOW FAR WE HAVE COME IN A YEAR! Tonight she sat in the booth next to daddy and smiled, laughed, talked and just charmed everyone. Here is another victory tonight. It seems that EVERYONE at RR had a birthday tonight. The servers would come by, CLAP REALLY LOUD and sing a "happy birthday" song. You may say, "big deal" unless you know Caleb. He is terrified of clapping and anything doing with birthday songs. Tonight, he didn't let it phase him in the least. It was loud and frequent and he just ignored it. WOW! Praise the Lord. Now, we didn't test this victory by telling them it was Lauren's birthday, but I believe the time will come.

We ended our evening out with ice cream at UDF! Caleb had a chocolate cone with Chocolate ice cream, Jen had peanut butter cookie dough, I had a mix of butter pecan and a turtle ice cream, Lauren had chocolate with sprinkles. We ended up bringing Lauren's home because she is so distracted and eats so slow. Once home she really "dug in" and then headed for a bath.

Lauren's party will be Friday night. There will be family, friends, cake, ice cream, presents and singing. It will be a great day. However, I don't think anything we do will compare to this simple day together.

Thank you God for my wife, my son and my daughter. You have blessed me so much more than I deserve, I am a very blessed man. Amen!

View Beyond The Pew

Okay, so reading scripture while hugging a skeleton might have been a little over the top. Trust me when I say that I meant no disrespect, but what else could I do on a family sunday and with my scripture text as Ezekiel 37!

What a great day! It just seemed that everyone was really excited to be at church. There was a buzzzzz in the building all morning long. Attendance was good. Offering was above budget for the 3rd week in a row (thank you Lord). The Child/Parent dedication was well received and a true blessing for everyone participating. Congrats to Casey, Brooke, Andrew, Israel & Ethan (parents too) on your dedications. I am expecting a few pics to be sent my way soon and will plan to post them here. If you would like a copy of the video shown during the dedication, please e-mail Jared Adamson (jadamson@lovedtolove.org) and he would be happy to send it to you. On that note, thanks a TON to Jared for taking a lot of extra time to put that video together. We are in DIRE NEED of new computers. The computers in our office are very, very, very outdated, especially when it comes to doing some of the advanced things we are doing in our services. As a result, Jared spent over 4 hours on something that should of taken 30 minutes. UGGGH! Thanks Jared. By the way, if you are reading this and would like to help get Jared a computer that would handle what he needs, give me a call or shoot me an e-mail ASAP!

It was so cool to have the kids in service again. I know that parents are ready for NP-3 to begin again, but family worship is always a nice thing. See Holly's blog, but I think they are about ready for a new and improved season at NP-3. Don't miss the fun this Sunday morning at 8:45 or 11:15.

It was moving to see so many people coming forward for prayer. It was exciting to see so many people "getting the Word" and applying it. It is awesome to hear about spiritual resolutions being made for Christ and His church. It was amazing to witness a "new birth in Christ" at the conclusion of our 11:15 service. Congrats to Shala Pachta on her baptism. How cool that her grandpa had the honor to baptize her. The angels in heaven rejoiced! It was really neat to hear a new friend to LCC (she has only attended 3 weeks) share her excitement about God's call on her life and to meet with her to talk about it today. It was miraculous to talk with a brand new friend in the foyer (sunday was his first time at LCC) about how God had lead him to LCC and how excited he was about the message and how the Spirit of God had spoke to him during the service. I am praying he attends Community Night on Wednesday. On a personal note, it was really nice to have great friends from Brazil, Indiana (Matt, Kathy, Shane and Logan) with us all weekend and worshipping with us at Loveland. Faith, Fun, Family, Friends and so much more!

It's so great to be a part of the Family of God! I said it Sunday and I will say it again, "I have the best job in the world".

Guided by Technology?

It has been nice to have SO MANY of you tell me how much you have missed my blogs. It is good to know that people actually read this thing. Why have I been gone so long?
Christmas? YES
Family Time? YES
Busy? YES
all these are true, however, the biggest reason has to do with technology.
The weekend before Christmas my computer tried to load 8 updates from window's vista and got "stuck". I decided after a LONG time to just shut it down. In doing so, I destroyed my operating system. UGGGHHHHH! No computer!
I want to say a great big, huge, mega THANKS to Clarence K. for getting my computer back and running. I lost all of my pictures, favorites and files, however, I have a computer again. Clarence is a great guy and has done great things for our website at church. Let me know if you need someone really good to hire for web page work and I will pass info along to him.
Now to the next thing. Early this morning (like around 3 am) I was eating pizza, chocolate and salsa all in one bite and a good friend of mine was using my camera to tape the event when the "picture card" malfunctioned and WHAM all my pictures are gone. I am most sad about our Christmas pics and the MANY, MANY, MANY,MANY pics of our LCC NEW YEARS EVE BASH I took last evening. I was looking forward to placing some of those on here as well as on our web page, but they are GONE! :o(::::::::::

Todd Temple, congrats on the ping pong tournament victory last evening. You were better than the other 21 players and you deserved the championship! (although, we don't have any pictures to prove you won?)

George Wise, thanks for giving your energy and time to allow us to have the New Years Eve Bash at the school, it was awesome!

Thanks to the well over 100 folks who joined us for any length of time last evening at Loveland Primary school, it was a huge success.

FINALLY, thanks to George Wise, Keith Wrassmann, Julie Preston, Angie Miller and Tony Miller for playing UNO well into the morning and of course for being such great sports as I BLEW EVERYONE AWAY ONCE AGAIN THIS YEAR! UNO CHAMP! YEAH!

Before you get too scared, NO, I am not talking about the Mark of the Beast. I just wanted to get your attention, and I DID! This reference is actually how many "skins" each myself, Keith Wrassmann and LJ (kyle helped) had in Tiger Woods 08 on X-box last night. Who won?

Well... In reality, I DID! I know that Keith and LJ will say differently, but at the end of 18 holes, I HAD THE MOST MONEY, so I won! The game however made us play a "tie breaker" hole and LJ decided to sink a putt on the fringe of the green for the "win". It really was a great putt, too bad the shot Keith made prior missed the hole by 2 inches!?

Anyway you look at it, IT WAS A BLAST! Chips, ice cream, soda, golf on X-box, big screen, booming sound, fun with friends, and of course pictures....

...how could we go wrong? LJ, thanks for your hospitality and competitive spirit. Last night was a very close match and a blast. By the way, LJ and I both had to be at Lafe & Sharon's house by 5 am this morning and we both made it! If you are wondering, Lafe's surgery on the Aneurysm went very well! He will be at the VA Hospital in Cincy for about 4 days. God-speed Lafe!

Jen called yesterday while I was in a staff meeting at work to say: "I think we have a leak in our roof!" When I asked her why she felt that way, she said "because we have a yellow water mark on our ceiling in our bedroom that was not there before." OH NO! That is always a pretty good sign. Last night before going to bed I touched the spot and immediately it started dripping. I then took a screwdriver and made a hole in the ceiling. Here it is...

Fast forward to this afternoon. The sun came out and before we knew it, it was almost 70 degrees in our neighborhood. I left work around 2:30 and headed for ACE Hardware to get a tarp. Then, up on the roof. I needed to get the spot covered before the next rounds of rain expected tonight. I couldn't see a spot, but knew about where it should be, so I tarped my first ever roof! UGGHHH UURRRR! UW UW UW! I then cleaned out my gutters and finally put everything away. I am ready for the rain.

Then Jen had a great idea. Take a look up in the attic right above the hole in our ceiling. Humm? Ok! I have never been in the attic, so up I went. What I found made me learn a valuable lesson. CHECK THE OBVIOUS FIRST! The ceiling in the attic was dry as a bone however, I noticed the dryer vent sitting on top of the hole and right at that spot was where they had DUCT TAPED two vents together. The tape had fallen out and condensation had been leaking out for the best part of 10 years. That is where it came from, a dryer vent. Here is the pic to prove it...

Next, we have to get our ceiling in our room fixed, and then I will have to take the tarp off my roof. At least the cost of this will be much less than a roof. Thanks God! The best part, I actually learned a lot today. Another moment in TIM TAYLOR BRIAN history!
